The Maronite Library of Aleppo is one of the most important private collections of manuscripts in the Syrian Arab Republic. This ancient library, belonging formerly to Mar Elias Cathedral, has been growing over the centuries thanks to the purchase of new manuscripts from Lebanon, Syria and the Gazira. The work of local copyists and the posthumous donations of books from many distinguished figures of this community such as Germanus Farhat, Bulus Arutin, Germanus Hawa, among others, have also increased the holdings. The collection contains more than 1640 manuscripts in Arabic, Syriac and Arabic Karshuni on the Bible, theology, history, grammar, science, liturgy, poetry and literature. This catalogue offers the first detailed record and description of the 134 Syriac manuscripts belonging to the Maronite Library of Aleppo. The material is helpfully categorized according to the manuscript's particular area of concern : Bible, grammars and dictionaries, miscellany and liturgy. The book also includes 48 images and full indices of titles, personal names, subjects and places.

This volume contains codicological descriptions of the manuscripts in two of the Montserrat collections. The first, and most important, are the Syriac and karsuni Arabic collections in the Montserrat Abbey Library, thus completing the cataloguing of its Oriental manuscripts. The second is a small collection of Coptic, Arabic and Coptic Arabic volumes belonging to the Roca-Puig collection.

Among all the different theories that currently explore the religious milieu of Late Antiquity to elucidate the origins of the Islamic religion, there is a group of scholars supporting that Jewish Christianity must have played a role in its formation, reviving the question of a potential link between Early Islam and the beliefs and practices of those followers of Jesus that maintained or adopted certain Jewish beliefs and practices, either Jews that believed in the messianism and/or the prophecy of Jesus, groups whose existence and nature is still a matter of debate. In any case, the question is still subject of passionate debate among specialists. This volume collects the papers of a two-day colloquium held in Washington DC in October 2015 about the question of Jewish Christianity and Early Islam and highlights the vitality of this field of studies. The contributions included here cover a broad range of topics, and they offer new ideas, interpretations and understandings of the question.
