Abstract

In this master's thesis I conducted a threefold investigation into the Left Dislocation construction (LD) in the Psalms, respectively on the syntactic, pragmatic and accentual level. The first step in my research consists of a syntactic description of the LD construction in the Psalms. Although the construction is clearly defined syntactically in the general linguistic literature, we need this step to apply this knowledge to make useful LD categories to continue our research. As our research has shown, we can categorize the LD focussing mainly on the resumptive element, which refers back to the dislocated constituent. In this way, we find two possible LD constructions, one referring back using a suffix, and the other using an indexical term. On the other hand, we can also focus on the dislocated constituent, which gives us two other categories, respectively containing a personal pronoun or an adjunct without the expected preposition. It appears from our further research that these four categories are indicative for different characteristics. Our second step then consisted of determining what pragmatic functions these different LD categories can exhibit, and what the overall uses of the LD in general can be. These results are too detailed and pluriform to be discussed in this small space. On the general level, we found that a LD construction is used with long term topics to introduce them, while with short term topics it is used to summarize or end the topic. On category-specific level, we found that there is always a correlation between activation state of the topic of the dislocated constituent, and the activations state of the previous topic. If the resumptive element of the LD construction uses a suffix to refer back, the previous topic was activated in the previous verse. If it uses an indexical term, the topic expressed in the dislocated constituent is a subset of the topic of the previous verse. Whenever the dislocated constituent contains a personal pronoun...

Abstract

This volume provides the first comprehensive introduction to the intersections between Christianity and the digital humanities. DH is a well-established, fast-growing, multidisciplinary field producing computational applications and analytical models to enable new kinds of research. Scholars of Christianity were among the first pioneers to explore these possibilities, using digital approaches to transform the study of Christian texts, history and ideas, and innovative work is taking place today all over the world. This volume aims to celebrate and continue that legacy by bringing together 15 of the most exciting contemporary projects, grouped into four categories. "Canon, corpus and manuscript" examines physical texts and collections. "Words and meanings" explores digital approaches to language and linguistics. "Digital history" uses digital techniques to explore the Christian past, and "Theology and pedagogy" engages with digital approaches to teaching, formation and Christian ideas. This volume introduces key debates, shares exciting initiatives, and aims to encourage new innovations in analysis and communication. Christianity and the Digital Humanities is ideally suited as a starting point for students and researchers interested in this vast and complex field.

Abstract

This handbook provides a systematic overview of the present state of international research in digital public history. Individual studies by internationally renowned public historians, digital humanists, and digital historians elucidate central issues in the field and present a critical account of the major public history accomplishments, research activities, and practices with the public and of their digital context. The handbook applies an international and comparative approach, looks at the historical development of the field, focuses on technical background and the use of specific digital media and tools. Furthermore, the handbook analyzes connections with local communities and different publics worldwide when engaging in digital activities with the past, indicating directions for future research, and teaching activities.
