It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 16th ACM ASIA Conference on Computer and Communications Security 2021 (ACM ASIACCS 2021). Planning for ASIACCS 2021 began more than a year ago as a physical event in Hong Kong. However, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting travel restrictions, it was decided in early 2021 that the conference will be hosted wholly online. Despite the change, this year's conference continues and extends its tradition as a premier venue for researchers and practitioners to present and discuss the latest security and privacy research. As in the past, the conference program also includes pre-conference workshops on specific subjects. To create a more interactive virtual experience for all participants through this challenging period, we also prepared an online social event to provide the participants with additional social networking opportunities. ASIACCS 2021 has benefited from many contributors for its success. We would like to thank the authors and the program committee for the outstanding program. We are grateful to the distinguished keynote speakers, Prof. Somesh Jha, Prof. Kui Ren, and Prof. Elaine Shi. We are deeply indebted to the organizing committee, including the Program Chairs: Zhiqiang Lin and Moti Yung; Local Organization Chair: Xiapu Luo; Publicity Chair: Weizhi Meng; Finance Chair: Dennis Y. W. Liu; Workshop Chair: Cong Wang; Publication Chair: Tsz Hon Yuen; Poster Chair: Yajin Zhou. We would like to express our deep gratitude to the steering committee for their valuable support and suggestions.

This brief covers the emerging area of wireless sensor network (WSN)-based structural health monitoring (SHM) systems, and introduces the authors’ WSN-based platform called SenetSHM. It helps the reader differentiate specific requirements of SHM applications from other traditional WSN applications, and demonstrates how these requirements are addressed by using a series of systematic approaches. The brief serves as a practical guide, explaining both the state-of-the-art technologies in domain-specific applications of WSNs, as well as the methodologies used to address the specific requirements for a WSN application. In particular, the brief offers instruction for problem formulation and problem solving based on the authors’ own experiences implementing SenetSHM. Seven concise chapters cover the development of hardware and software design of SenetSHM, as well as in-field experiments conducted while testing the platform. The brief’s exploration of the SenetSHM platform is a valuable feature for civil engineers designing their own similar SHM products, and the various concrete examples of problem formulation and algorithm design will make this an essential read for practitioners, researchers and students alike.

Welcometotheproceedingsofthe2ndInternationalSymposiumonParalleland Distributed Processing and Applications (ISPA2004) which was held in Hong Kong, China, 13–15 December, 2004. With the advance of computer networks and hardware technology, parallel and distributed processing has become a key technology which plays an imp- tant part in determining future research and development activities in many academic and industrial branches. It provides a means to solve computati- ally intensive problems by improving processing speed. It is also the only - ableapproachtobuildinghighlyreliableandinherentlydistributedapplications. ISPA2004 provided a forum for scientists and engineers in academia and ind- try to exchange and discuss their experiences, new ideas, research results, and applications about all aspects of parallel and distributed computing. There was a very large number of paper submissions (361) from 26 countries and regions, including not only Asia and the Paci?c, but also Europe and North America. All submissions were reviewed by at least three program or technical committee members or external reviewers. It was extremely di?cult to select the presentations for the conference because there were so many excellent and interesting submissions. In order to allocate as many papers as possible and keep the high quality of the conference, we ?nally decided to accept 78 regular papers and 38 short papers for oral technical presentations. We believe that all of these papers and topics not only provide novel ideas, new results, work in progress and state-of-the-art techniques in this ?eld, but also stimulate the future research activities in the area of parallel and distributed computing with applications.
