Witchcraft has profoundly shaped the western imagination, and endures in the forms of modern-day Wicca and paganism. 'Embracing the Darkness' is an enthralling account of this fascinating aspect of the western cultural experience. A belief in the supernatural, and in black magic, has been central to western cultural life for 3000 years. From the Salem witch trials and the macabre novels of Dennis Wheatley, to the seductive sorceresses of Warner Brother's Charmed, and Derek Jarman's punk film 'Jubilee', witchcraft has profoundly shaped the western imagination. In this fascinating study, John Callow brings the twilight world of the witch, mage and necromancer vividly to life.

In this guide to the flowers of Greece almost 3000 species of flowering plants are named or described, and keyed. The author has travelled widely over many years in the region and has described at first-hand sixteen of the richest plant-hunting areas. Each description is complemented by a double-page spread illustrating characteristic plants drawn by Pat Halliday, and interspersed among the pages on the identification of species are line drawings by Barbara Everard and Ann Davies showing diagnoostic features of selected plants. The outstanding feature of the book, however, is the photographic section - 80 colour plates containing 483 photographs which capture the beauty of the flowers and the natura setting in which they are found.
