Dit rapport bevat de volledige resultaten van 's werelds grootste experiment met de vierdaagse werkweek tot nu toe, die 61 bedrijven en ongeveer 2 900 werknemers omvatte en van juni tot december 2022 in het VK plaatsvond. Het is vaak afgedaan als een utopie, een luchtkasteel. Maar uit deze studie blijkt dat werknemers die zonder loonverlies een kortere week aannamen, gelukkiger en productiever waren, minder ziektedagen opnamen en meer inkomsten voor hun werkgevers genereerden. Onder leiding van onderzoekers van de Universiteit van Cambridge, Engeland, beoordeelde de studie het effect van een proef met een vierdaagse werkweek, die tussen juni en december 2022 in het Verenigd Koninkrijk plaatsvond. Van de 61 deelnemende bedrijven - waaronder online retailers, financiële dienstverleners en restaurants - beloofden 56 de overstap permanent te maken.Onderzoekers ontdekten dat 71 procent van de deelnemers een lagere burn-out meldde, waarbij 39 procent aangaf minder gestrest te zijn dan voor het experiment. Bovendien vond 60 procent dat ze beter in staat waren om betaald werk te combineren met zorgtaken, terwijl 62 procent zei dat het makkelijker was om werk te combineren met hun sociale leven. Dit vertaalde zich in een vermindering van het aantal ziektedagen met 65% en een daling van het aantal vertrekkende personeelsleden met 57% ten opzichte van dezelfde periode van zes maanden vorig jaar. De bezorgdheid dat de overgang naar een vierdaagse werkweek gevolgen zou hebben voor de winst, werd niet bewaarheid. Vergeleken met een vergelijkbare periode in voorgaande jaren, meldden organisaties zelfs een omzetstijging van gemiddeld 35 procent.
