In de aanloop naar de nieuwe beheersovereenkomst van de VRT die inging op 1 januari 2012 discussieerden politici, academici, private mediabedrijven en vertegenwoordigers van het middenveld intens over hoe de VRT er de komende vijf jaar moet uitzien. Dit debat werd meer dan vorige keren ook door onderzoek gevoed: de mediasector werd bevraagd en ook de Vlaming kon zijn/haar mening geven. Dit boek beoogt op bevattelijke wijze inzicht te bieden in de inhoud van de beheersovereenkomst 2012-2016 en het proces dat eraan vooraf ging. De lezer wordt hierbij uitgenodigd zelf een mening te vormen over de vraag: heeft Vlaanderen nog nood aan een publieke omroep of is de VRT in het digitale landschap meer en meer een overbodige luxe geworden ?
