This volume contains the proceedings of the Ninth IFIP WG 6.1 International Conference on Formal Methods for Open Object-Based Distributed Systems (FMOODS 2007). The conference is part of the federated conferences on D- tributed Computing Techniques (DisCoTec), together with the Ninth Inter- tional Conference on Coordination Models and Languages (COORDINATION 2007) and the Seventh IFIP International Conference on Distributed Appli- tions and Interoperable Systems (DAIS 2007). It was organized by the Depa- mentofComputerScienceoftheUniversityofCyprus, anditwasheldinPaphos, Cyprusduring June,6-8,2007.The eventwasthethird federatedDisCoTec c- ferenceseries, initiated inAthensin June2005andcontinuedinBolognainJune 2006. The goal of the FMOODS conferences is to bring together researchers and practitioners whose work encompasses three important and related ?elds: - Formal methods - Distributed systems and - Object-based technology The 17 papers presented at FMOODS 2007and included in this volume were selected by the Programme Committee among 45 submissions. Each submission was reviewed by at least three ProgrammeCommittee members. They all re?ect thescopeoftheconferenceandcoverthe following topics: semantics of obje- oriented programming; formal techniques for speci?cation, analysis, and re?- ment; model checking; theorem proving and deductive veri?cation;type systems and behavioral typing; formal methods for service-oriented computing; integ- tion of quality of service requirements into formal models; formal approaches to component-based design; and applications of formal methods. The two invited speakers of FMOODS 2007, who also contributed to the proceedings in this volume, were: - MariangiolaDezani-Ciancagliniofthe UniversityofTorino,Italy, whoiswell known for her work on intersection-type assignment systems, which were largely used as ?nitary descriptions of lambda-models. More recently, she is interestedin type systems for object-orientedlanguagesand ambientcalculi.

Formal methods have been applied successfully to the verification of medium-sized programs in protocol and hardware design for some time. However, their application to the development of large systems requires more emphasis on specification, modeling, and validation techniques supporting the concepts of reusability and modifiability, and their implementation in new extensions of existing programming languages like Java. This book contains 20 revised papers submitted after the 10th Symposium on Formal Methods for Components and Objects, FMCO 2011, which was held in Turin, Italy, in October 2011. Topics covered include autonomic service-component ensembles; trustworthy eternal systems via evolving software, data, and knowledge; parallel patterns for adaptive heterogeneous multicore systems; programming for future 3D architectures with many cores; formal verification of object oriented software; and an infrastructure for reliable computer systems.

This book constitutes revised lectures from the 11th Symposium on Formal Methods for Components and Object, FMCO 2012, held in Bertinoro, Italy, in September 2012. The 8 lectures featured in this volume are by world-renowned experts within the area of formal models for objects and components. The book provides a unique combination of ideas on software engineering and formal methods which reflect the expanding body of knowledge on modern software systems.
