The exhibition focused on the Dante edition by Ugo Foscolo and edited by Giuseppe Mazzini in London in 1843-44. Almost ten years after Ugo Foscolo died in exile on the outskirts of London, Giuseppe Mazzini arrived, also an exile, found those papers alongside the highly political Apologetic Letter. Multiple reasons favored the decision and choice of the Marco Besso Foundation to create this exhibition. Undoubtedly Marco Besso's interest and passion for Dante Alighieri, which would have led him to the formation of a Dante collection which now has one of the largest private collections in Italy. Preserved among the volumes of the Historical Library is precisely that edition, condemned by the Church in the Index of forbidden books, of Dante's Comedy prepared by Ugo Foscolo and recovered by Mazzini himself, whose editorial vicissitudes, and not only that, are at the origin of this exhibition.
