"De ontwerpstudie 'De stad van de toekomst' liep van januari - eind november 2018. Aan de hand van vijf testlocaties van 1 x 1 km in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Haag, Utrecht en Eindhoven werd gekeken naar nieuwe manieren van stad maken.De onderliggende vraag was hoe we in tijden van de volgende verdichtingsgolf bouwopgaven kunnen koppelen aan energietransitie, innovaties op gebied van vervoer, circulaire economie en andere systeem- en netwerkinnovaties.Kunnen we met elkaar zorgen voor een systeemsprong die een duurzame toekomst voor de stad borgt? Kunnen we daarbij verder kijken dan alleen naar een sectorale opgave of specifieke transitie? En hoe zien de nieuwe systemen en interfaces er dan uit? Wat is hiervoor nodig en tot welke (eind)beelden kan dit leiden?" "Gedurende 2018 werkten tien multidisciplinaire teams aan visies voor de vijf testlocaties. Naast architecten en stedenbouwkundigen werkten landschapsarchitecten, mobiliteitsexperts, experts op gebied van circulaire economie, energietransitie, future strategies en smart cities, kunsteraars, schrijvers etc. mee aan deze grote ontdekkingsreis. Deelnemers aan de studie werkten op een 'level playing field' samen met alle betrokkenen vanuit gemeenten en gebieden aan visies voor de vijf 'vensters op de stad' en aan ideeën voor de stad van de toekomst in het algemeen. Zij werden gevoed door masterclasses, lokale ateliers en plenaire bijeenkomsten, waar over de locaties heen het debat werd gevoerd over de stad van de toekomst".

Ever since their successful debut with Plan Stork over thirty years ago, H+N+S Landscape architects has played a leading role in Dutch landscape architecture. The firm’s designs are a testament to their deep insights and long-term perspectives. Water management and our relationship with nature feature strongly in their work.During the past three decades the practice has evolved from primarily a ’thinking office’ to becoming a ‘making office’ as well, across all aspects of the profession. A constant factor throughout has been their unique combination of sound knowledge and an inspirational spirit of inquiry. Examples are the design for Maasvlakte II, which blends functionality with enjoyment of nature, relocating a road in Leuven to make way for the wonderful Belle-Vue Park, the new types of dike that impart extra elan to the area development along the river Meuse, and the housing complex that gives a new lease of life to allotment gardens in Alkmaar.This richly illustrated magazine showcases over thirty projects by H+N+S, with contributions from Hans van der Meer and Siebe Swart. Large gatefold pages make the reader feel part of the landscape. Marieke Berkers interviewed the old and new management about what drives them and Tijs van den Boomen draws on a series of roundtable discussions with clients, former employees, partners and observers – to write about three decades of thinking, acting and letting go.

Airports look alike all over the world. Schiphol has conformed to the patterns of the airport, but its unique design makes it stand out. This title looks into the history of the Netherlands' most famous national airport and its sophisticated appearance. Schiphol has grown in fits and starts as a result of everƯexpanding traffic in freight and passengers. The area around Schiphol is constantly evolving, yet there is great consistency in the visual aspect of this airport, which can rightly be called a 'megaƯstructure'. This is not merely due to the efforts of its designers, who have strived to achieve a spectacular simplicity. Other factors, such as its location in a polder and the local planning culture, have also played a role. In this book an analysis of its metamorphoses over the past century demonstrates Schiphol's unique character and its function as a model for other airports.

Dit jaarboek toont de beste en mooiste projecten van 2020. Zoals een gloednieuwe eilandengroep in het Markermeer, bijzondere dijkvormen op Texel en langs de Maas, een circulaire woonwijk in Amsterdam-Noord, een met bewoners ontwikkeld fabrieksterrein in Eindhoven, een nieuw stadshart voor Uithuizen, en een nieuw station mét omgeving in Assen. Stuk voor stuk prachtige plekken en plannen waarin - dat is de focus van dit boek - diversiteit, duurzaamheid en innovatie voorop staan.De projecten zijn gekozen door een onafhankelijke commissie van vakmensen. De redactie van het tijdschrift Blauwe Kamer verzorgde de samenstelling. Naast de bevindingen van de commissie en een beschrijving van de geselecteerde projecten bevat het jaarboek onder andere een portret van Yttje Feddes - winnaar van de Bijhouwerprijs voor haar bijdrage aan de landschapsarchitectuur - en een essay van rijksadviseur Berno Strootman over 'landschapsinclusieve' landbouw. The yearbook compiled by the editors of 'Blauwe Kamer' magazine consists of out- standing projects showcasing the range of urban and landscape design that the Netherlands has to offer. Among them are new housing in both densified cities and the countryside, activism in design, engineer- ing through beauty in infrastructure, and remarkable ways to create public space. The chosen projects were selected by an independent committee, and in addition to the committee's findings the book con- tains a photo reportage on public space in current times of worldwide pandemic and demonstrations.
