Abstract

My thesis examines English-language pamphlets in the years between 1650 and 1715 from the Knuttel Collection in the Royal Library of the Netherlands. Within this criteria there are about 250 pamphlets of a variety of topics and formats. From these 250, I organized and placed them into temporal and topical categories for analysis. With the political changes and conflict in England and Europe during this time period, I analyze and argue on the publication motivations of these different types of pamphlets, including to encourage patriotic morale and hatred for the enemy during wartime, support for the current governmental regime, or advocating for change in the people’s rights.
