The British architect Quinlan Terry has created the ultimate guide to classical architecture. With detailed sketches, he explains the classical orders of architecture that was created by Vitruvius around 100 AD. The tradition of building according to these orders was kept up well into the twentieth century, when other, more modern, ideals started to take over. With this book, Terry, a strong proponent of classical architecture, once again wants to place focus on the kind of architecture that dominated the field for almost 2,000 years, yet its background and construction are known by few today. The book contains a large collection of Quinlan Terry's drawings and sketches from travels, as well as linocuts. The preface is written by Prince Charles, another advocate for classical architecture, who holds Quinlan Terry as his favourite among contemporary architects.
