Cet ouvrage met en relation les géo-bio-mytho-graphies de trois figures féminines dissidentes qui ont affecté le panorama des Etats-Unis pendant les années 1970 et 1990 : les écrivaines-professeures-féministes-militantes lesbiennes Audre Lorde, Gloria Anzaldúa et Paula Gunn Allen. Issues respectivement de la tradition afro-américaine, chicana et amérindienne, elles ont joué un rôle essentiel dans l'histoire et le développement des féminismes transnationaux et de la culture queer. La lecture et l'analyse des trois essais traduits dans ce volume permettent de dégager les caractéristiques de la communauté trans-ethnique des Third world women writers.
