This book presents a series of over 50 cases in 3D transesophageal echocardiography. In each case, background information is followed by a step-by-step approach to patient diagnosis and postoperative outcomes. The book’s most outstanding highlight consists in over 600 illustrations, which mainly focus on 3D transesophageal echocardiography in combination with 2D transesophageal echocardiography, X-ray fluoroscopy and computed tomography to demonstrate the various cardiovascular pathologies. Since the echo images obtained in clinic practice are moving images, it also includes more than 450 videos, which effectively supplement the static illustrations. The atlas is divided into 11 chapters. Chapters 1 through 3 describe abnormalities affecting mitral, aortic, tricuspid and pulmonary valves, while prosthetic valves are discussed in Chapter 4. Chapter 5 details abnormalities of the aorta. Chapters 6-8 examine coronary artery disease, congenital heart disease and cardiomyopathies, while Chapter 9 explores cases of infective endocarditis. Chapter 10 deals with tumor and mass lesions, and the other cases are collectively addressed in Chapter 11. Offering a valuable new resource, the book will enhance the usefulness of echocardiography during operations as a “third eye” for surgeons. Editor Wei-Hsian Yin is Chief of the Division of Cardiology, Cheng-Hsin General Hospital, Taipei. Editor Ming-Chon Hsiung is a Physician at the same department.

Over the last 30 years the technological advances in transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) have been exponential and have been reflected by its increasing utilization. Currently almost all echocardiography labs will undertake the modality and the vast majority of valve operations are performed with TEE guidance. The spatial and temporal resolution of TEE is unsurpassed and it is relatively easy to get good images with minimal training. Transesophageal Echocardiography in Clinical Practice provides pragmatic guidance to those undertaking training in TEE. It is not an exhaustive text to be used for reference but one that should be used in conjunction with hands-on experience and, if used correctly, this combination will help the reader understand the true potential of TEE.

This book introduces classic and unique cases in 3D TEE in structural heart disease interventions. In each all the 40 cases, background information, clinical presentations, and diagnostic findings are present and followed by step-by-step approaches of interventional therapies and outcomes after the procedures. The highlight of the book is to utilize extensive illustrations, over 500, to demonstrate various cardiovascular pathologies. Most of the figures are 3D transesophageal echocardiograms, they are cooperated with 2D transesophageal echocardiograms, X rays, fluoroscopies, computed tomograms, etc. Since the echo images obtained in clinic practice are moving images, it also includes over 300 videos, which serve as a supplement to the static illustrations in this book. The atlas is organized into five chapters. In Chapters one, cases received closure of congenital and acquired cardiac defects are described. Transcatheter aortic valve implantation and its complications are discussed in Chapter two and three. Chapter four details the valve-in-valve therapy. Chapter five covers MitraClip therapy. It offers readers an insider’s view of 3D transesophageal echocardiography in structural heart disease interventions and to refresh their clinical work.

After almost three decades of research and clinical development, three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography has become a valuable tool in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease. Current approaches achieve 3D imaging with the use of matrix array transducers that allow physicians to realistically visualize cardiac anatomy and pathology in real time. These advances have led to major improvements in the accuracy of chamber volumes and cardiac structure quantification, as well as in their functional analysis, while miniaturization of hardware has enabled a real-time 3D transesophageal transducer. This breakthrough technology delivers images of internal cardiac structures that are of vastly superior quality. The Atlas of 3D Transesophageal Echocardiography is intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the normal anatomy of the heart’s interior structures as seen by this new revolutionary ultrasound technique. Normal cardiac structures obtained using 3D transesophageal echocardiography are presented and compared side-by-side with their corresponding anatomical specimens, focusing on both basic and detailed portrayals of the heart’s anatomic structures and providing examples of the most common diseases. This atlas is therefore written not only for cardiologists specifically involved in the imaging of patients but also for general cardiologists, since it offers a wider view of normal and pathological cardiac anatomy.
