The latest diagnostic and therapeutic modalities in the management of coronary artery disease by coronary artery bypass graft surgery and by percutaneous coronary intervention with stenting and in the interventional management of other atherosclerotic vascular disease have led to a reduction in cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. This book entitled Artery Bypass provides an excellent update on these advances which every physician seeing patients with atherosclerotic vascular disease should be familiar with. This book includes 27 chapters written by experts in their topics.

This book comprehensively reviews LM revascularization, one of the most technically challenging and prognostically relevant topics for cardiologists. LM carries blood to 70-80% of the normal heart, and diseases affecting this coronary segment are a common cardiac condition. Beginning in the sixties, management was exclusively within the domain of cardiac surgeons, and recent dramatic changes in percutaneous techniques have led to huge improvements but have also brought significant surgical challenges. In the book, top cardiac surgeons describe current and future operative techniques, while leading interventional cardiologists discuss new bifurcation techniques. This book also investigates the recently released European Society of Cardiology Guidelines in detail. Featuring the latest scientific studies with long-term follow up, and detailed descriptions of the techniques used, this book provides comprehensive guidance for any clinician, and is a valuable resource for cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and internists.

While the majority of patients with symptomatic coronary artery disease (CAD) achieve acceptable angina relief through medical therapy, coronary artery bypass grafting and percutaneous coronary intervention, a growing number are not candidates for these procedures. Standard procedures are largely palliative, and symptom recurrence is relatively common, while the increase in obesity and type 2 diabetes may result in a potential explosion in severe, diffuse CAD. As these trends continue, the population of patients who fail to achieve adequate symptomatic improvement through standard medical and revascularization strategies will grow exponentially. Therapeutic options for these patients are currently limited, but experimental and developing strategies are appearing, including transmyocardial laser revascularization, therapeutic angiogenesis, spinal cord stimulation, external counterpulsation, various novel medical therapies and complex percutaneous and surgical revascularization strategies. Coronary Artery Disease: New Approaches without Traditional Revascularization is a comprehensive and clinically oriented review of the epidemiology and basic science foundation for studies in this challenging group of patients. Current and novel treatment strategies are put in the context of past failures and future directions, and the Editors and their carefully chosen group of contributors provide a fascinating insight into the direction and focus for clinical practice and research in this area. As such this book is an important reference not only for clinical cardiologists, cardiac surgeons and interventionalists but also researchers into novel diagnostic measures, new surgical techniques and other treatment regiments in CAD.

This book provides an invaluable practically applicable and comprehensive manual to coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery. Critical concepts and techniques are discussed in an easy-to-follow and understand step-by-step guide, featuring a wealth of intraoperative photos and illustrations with concise and instructive descriptions. Topics covered include classical sternotomy, variants of arterial revascularization, off-pump and minimally invasive techniques (MICS-CABG). Operative Techniques in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery provides invaluable assistance to residents, fellows and trainee surgeons by explaining theoretical and technical aspects of the latest advances in procedural techniques and therapy personalization to optimize CABG surgical outcome. Considering that any heart team depends entirely on the participants’ knowledge and their willingness to cooperate, this work allows cardiologists and the other participants of a heart team to better understand the strengths and limitations of state-of-the-art surgical coronary revascularization. The concepts synthesized within the checklists and decision algorithms provided also enable the reader to develop their knowledge of which technique is the most appropriate for a particular patient. .
