Abstract

Written for all members of the investigative team, Forensic Investigations of Motor Vehicle Incidents is an in-depth study of the cause of motor vehicle injuries and deaths. It provides a scientific examination of circumstances underlying an incident and allows for a reasoned analysis of injuries. The book studies the nature and extent of injuries sustained during a variety of incident scenarios. It addresses the behavioral and medical factors that impair human abilities and cause vehicular incidents. It aids the pathologist in determining cause of death by focusing on toxicology and the post mortem examination. The book contains more than 100 photographs and an appendix on the rudiments of crash scene investigations.

Abstract

This fully updated edition presents practices and principles applicable for the reconstruction of automobile and commercial truck crashes. Like the First Edition, it starts at the very beginning with fundamental principles, information sources, and data gathering and inspection techniques for accident scenes and vehicles. It goes on to show how to analyze photographs and crash test data. The book presents tire fundamentals and shows how to use them in spreadsheet-based reverse trajectory analysis. Such methods are also applied to reconstructing rollover crashes. Impacts with narrow fixed objects are discussed. Impact mechanics, structural dynamics, and conservation-based reconstruction methods are presented. The book contains a comprehensive treatment of crush energy and how to develop structural stiffness properties from crash test data. Computer simulations are reviewed and discussed. Extensively revised, this edition contains new material on side pole impacts. It has entirely new chapters devoted to low-speed impacts, downloading electronic data from vehicles, deriving structural stiffness in side impacts, and incorporating electronic data into accident reconstructions

Abstract

A British detective goes undercover in the South of France to investigate a suspicious death in this twisting mystery.A British ministry official wants Inspector Littlejohn to look into the death of his brother and sister-in-law who were killed in an automobile accident outside a small village in southern France. Though the French police ruled it an accident, the official isn't satisfied. Something seems wrong. With no jurisdiction in Provence, Littlejohn must investigate unofficially. So, he and his wife decide to vacation in the area. Soon witnesses start disappearing, the couple discovers they're being followed, and the local marquis tells Littlejohn that it may be time to go back home. But the detective isn't going anywhere until he solves the deadly mystery that reaches back to a shooting incident from before World War II.
