"This new textbook has two main themes. The first is Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) which is the off-site manufacture of a wide spectrum of products, ranging from whole buildings to be transported onto site, down to smaller units or components for site integration. The second theme is describing the innovation and progress towards carbon zero by the major generators of CO2 in the construction industry- namely cement, steel and masonry"--

In order for the turnaround in the construction industry to succeed, material resources must be fully reused and recycled. Single-origin and low-pollutant building materials, which are used in reversible component joints and are simply joined, are the basic prerequisite for the circular design of buildings. This handbook explains how to plan and build according to the circular principle. It shows the past and present of circular architecture and analyses the fundamentals of single-origin construction in terms of methodology, material and construction. Joining and connecting techniques will be discussed, as well as the choice of materials in general and the life cycles of individual layers and their functions.

Disponible en français, allemand et anglais According to Anna Heringer, "Beauty has nothing to do with money or finance, but everything to do with creativity and love". With statements like this she clearly has her finger on the pulse of our time, judging by the packed lecture halls, international awards such as the 2007 Aga Kahn Award or the 2020 OBEL AWARD, exhibitions at MoMA, MAM São Paulo, and the Venice Biennale. In Form Follows Love, Anna Heringer talks to author Dominique Gauzin-Müller about her career as an architect, her studies, her experiences during a workshop by Martin Rauch, her practice in the Global South, and current projects in the Global North. She shares with us the insight that clay is not only an environmentally friendly material, but in the best cases it can even trigger socially beneficial processes.

The use of natural raw materials is today more significant in architecture than ever before. While timber construction is already firmly established in the field of architecture, there is an increasing focus on alternative construction materials such as clay, straw, cork or bamboo, along with their application features. In full alignment with sustainable construction, they make it possible to plan energy-optimised, recyclable and climate-friendly buildings for the future. The book shows how this can be achieved based on 30 projects of all sizes. The buildings present the entire spectrum of natural materials. They show numerous construction and application methods of the different building materials. This book manifests what is possible using natural construction materials in great detail.
