Depuis la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et la reconstruction, l'Allemagne s'est beaucoup transformée, en particulier du fait de la réunification. Sur le plan politique, on a assisté à l'affaiblissement des partis traditionnels, au changement des électorats, à l'émergence d'une extrême droite parlementaire... Cette évolution fragilise-t-elle la démocratie allemande et ses principes : consensus politique, démocratie de partis, négociation syndicale, participation des citoyens ? Pour répondre à cette question, ce livre analyse la persistance du clivage politique Est/Ouest, les succès de l'AfD au sein des nouveaux Länder de l'ex-RDA, ou les effets durables de la religion et de la classe sur le vote. Sont également étudiées les évolutions du recrutement politique au Bundestag et la gouvernementalisation de l'action publique au sein de grandes coalitions. L'examen du système partisan, passé de trois partis dans les années 1960 au multipartisme, permet de comprendre les conséquences de l'émergence de nouveaux acteurs politiques. Il en ressort que le jeu politique allemand est bouleversé.

How did the homesteads and reservations of the Prairies of Western North America influence German colonization, ethnic cleansing and genocide in Eastern Europe? Max Sering, a world famous agrarian settlement expert, stood on the Great Plains in 1883 and saw Germany's future in Eastern Europe: a grand scheme of frontier settlement.
