This research thesis explores the optimization of resources for sustainable growth within Morocco’s tomato industry through the application of circular economy principles. The study focuses on how resource optimization can enhance sustainability and efficiency, addressing critical challenges such as water scarcity, soil degradation, and climate change impacts. By integrating circular economy practices, the agricultural sector can transition from a linear ‘take, make, dispose’ model to a more sustainable ‘reuse, recycle, regenerate’ approach. The research involves a comprehensive literature review and empirical data collection through semi-structured interviews with stakeholders across the tomato industry value chain. Key areas of resource optimization identified include renewable energy integration, waste reduction and recycling, and innovative water management techniques. The findings aim to provide actionable strategies for transforming the tomato industry, aligning with national sustainability initiatives like the Green Morocco Plan, and ultimately contributing to a more resilient and sustainable agricultural sector in Morocco.

This thesis investigates the resilience of second chance entrepreneurs, focusing on literature and field lessons within the Belgian context. It highlights the significance of understanding entrepreneurial resilience, particularly post-failure, to foster a supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem. In Belgium, failure is often stigmatized, which can impede recovery efforts. The study combines a comprehensive literature review with qualitative research, including interviews with entrepreneurs and experts, to explore the multifaceted nature of resilience. Key findings indicate that successful second chance entrepreneurs demonstrate optimism, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and resourcefulness. The research underscores the importance of robust support systems, including mentorship and tailored training, to aid entrepreneurs in their recovery and future success.

This thesis investigates the influence of outsourcing on supply chain resilience within the Moroccan pharmaceutical sector, using case studies of Sanofi, Pharma 5, SOTHEMA, and Cooper Pharma through the Eisenhardt method. The research reveals that outsourcing non-core functions, such as logistics and secondary manufacturing, enhances operational efficiency and flexibility, enabling companies to concentrate on core activities. Diversified outsourcing partnerships, strong supplier relationships, and advanced technologies are identified as critical in mitigating risks and ensuring supply continuity. Regulatory compliance in outsourcing decisions is also crucial for maintaining quality and integrity. Despite limitations like the small sample size, the study provides valuable theoretical and practical insights, highlighting the importance of strategic outsourcing, robust partnerships, and technology integration in strengthening pharmaceutical supply chain resilience.

Treasury management is crucial for any company, as it involves managing liabilities with available liquidity. Effective cash flow forecasting, especially for cash inflows, is essential but can be challenging, particularly for small businesses that may have limited resources. These limitations make small companies more vulnerable to liquidity risks, particularly when facing issues like customer non-payment. Addressing liquidity management is therefore critical for small enterprises. This study focuses on understanding and improving cash flow management practices in small businesses by examining practices from 10 small companies across various sectors and sizes. An abductive approach has been selected to comprehensively address aspects of treasury management related to liquidity risk, with a specific focus on processes for managing customer non-payment risk.

This thesis explores the resilience of women entrepreneurs who have experienced a second chance, highlighting their journeys, the obstacles they face, and how they overcome these challenges to rebuild their lives and businesses. The women interviewed for this study are primarily from Belgium, with one exception from France, providing a focused perspective on the experiences of female entrepreneurs within these cultural contexts. The study aims to define resilience and identify the underlying factors contributing to it. It reveals that women are still significantly impacted by various norms—whether cultural, social, or gender-based—that limit their advancement. Despite these constraints, some women manage to transcend these barriers, though not without difficulty. They ultimately view their experiences as a natural course of life and embrace their journeys, recognizing that their struggles have shaped who they are today. Through this work, it becomes evident that entrepreneurship is filled with challenges and hard work. Yet, it offers women a sense of liberation and a reconnection with their true selves. However, the work-family conflict is notably prevalent in women’s lives, often restricting their professional opportunities. Many women confine themselves to these limitations, either out of a desire to spend more time with their families or out of fear of deviating from established norms. The relationship between a woman and her child is a topic that warrants further discussion to better understand what truly differentiates this dynamic from that of men. The research indicates that not all women entrepreneurs come from entrepreneurial backgrounds or even from supportive environments. Many have not pursued studies geared towards such careers. The work is based on a literature review and personal narratives that recount the lives of these women, often revealing emotional and challenging experiences. In conclusion, this thesis underscores that each woman has a unique journey marked by resilience and perseverance. The findings provide a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between so- cietal expectations, personal struggles, and the determination required to achieve success as a woman entrepreneur.

Our current "take-make-dispose" economic model (Ellen MacArthur Foundation, 2013) is unsustainable in a world with limited resources. The agri-food sector, responsible for about one-third of global greenhouse gas emissions (European Council, n.d.), is under scrutiny. Europe’s Green Deal and Farm to Fork strategy highlight the urgency for change. This study focuses on the apple sector, one of the most consumed fruits globally, with over 95.8 million tons produced in 2022 (FAOSTAT, 2023). It aims to identify circular practices and barriers within this sector. The research question is: "What circular economy practices are used by Walloon SMEs in the apple sector, and what challenges do they face?" A case study of six companies was conducted using Eisenhardt’s (1989) methodology. Potting et al.’s (2017) model was used to identify circular practices, while Kirchherr et al.’s (2018) framework for barriers. Findings show that while all companies pursue circular strategies, none stand out, with all balancing environmental impact and business viability. Barriers to circularity are context-specific, with market challenges being the most significant. This research encourages collaboration within the industry and offers insights to support both current and future enterprises. It also provides guidance for policymakers, emphasizing consumer awareness and the need for support in packaging, energy costs, and subsidies. The circular economy is well-established in Wallonia’s apple sector, with a promising future driven by dedicated stakeholders.

This thesis analyzes the impact of the barriers of electronic invoicing system in healthcare organizations with the aim of providing strategies for successful adoption. To do this, we analyzed existing literature reviews of related topics, then we conducted interviews with finance managers of selected healthcare organizations to grape potential information to offer helpful information and suggestions for healthcare organizations who want to use electronic invoicing. From our findings, healthcare organizations faced a lot of barriers stemming from stringent regulations, complex suppliers and clients, budget constraints, and slight resistance to change. We further provided recommendations for healthcare organization to overcome the barriers they face and use the strategies proposed to successfully implement e-invoicing systems.
