Time-Dependent Reliability Theory and Its Applications introduces the theory of time-dependent reliability and presents methods to determine the reliability of structures over the lifespan of their services. The book contains state-of-the-art solutions to first passage probability derived from the theory of stochastic processes with different types of probability distribution functions, including Gaussian and non-Gaussian distributions and stationary and non-stationary processes. In addition, it provides various methods to determine the probability of failure over time, considering different failure modes and a methodology to predict the service life of structures. Sections also cover the applications of time-dependent reliability to prediction of service life and development of risk cost-optimized maintenance strategy for existing structures. This new book is for those who wants to know how to predict the service life of a structure (buildings, bridges, aircraft structures, etc.) and how to develop a risk-cost, optimized maintenance strategy for these structures.

The management of maintenance processes and their integration with production processes is one of the significant challenges faced by industries today. It is known that maintenance must be carried out to guarantee the quality and continuity of production processes. Thus, manufacturing routines, production bottlenecks, and the criticality of each component or subsystem in the overall process should be considered not only by production management but also (and increasingly) by maintenance management. The latter should consider repair (or replacement) costs and miscellaneous expenses, plan to work on maintenance effectively, reduce repair times, and establish clear repair procedures and instructions. Maintenance process management can be deployed in several ways and following several strategies depending on the type of industry, its size, and the criticality of its processes. However, even being a unique company, it is always possible to take advantage of the experiences of other industries and their implementations. The advent of new technologies (such as automation, the Internet of Things, and cloud computing), along with new statistical and artificial intelligence techniques, has created an environment referred to as Industry 4.0, of which maintenance management systems are a part. This book presents aspects of predictive maintenance in industries and shows the possibility of reaching the creation of prognostic maintenance. It offers techniques for managing maintenance processes theoretically and practically as examples of possible industrial implementations.

Excel in site reliability engineering by learning from field-driven lessons on observability and reliability in code, architecture, process, systems management, costs, and people to minimize downtime and enhance developers' output Purchase of the print or Kindle book includes a free eBook in the PDF format Key Features Understand the goals of an SRE in terms of reliability, efficiency, and constant improvement Master highly resilient architecture in server, serverless, and containerized workloads Learn the why and when of employing Kubernetes, GitHub, Prometheus, Grafana, Terraform, Python, Argo CD, and GitOps Book Description Site reliability engineering is all about continuous improvement, finding the balance between business and product demands while working within technological limitations to drive higher revenue. But quantifying and understanding reliability, handling resources, and meeting developer requirements can sometimes be overwhelming. With a focus on reliability from an infrastructure and coding perspective, Becoming a Rockstar SRE brings forth the site reliability engineer (SRE) persona using real-world examples. This book will acquaint you the role of an SRE, followed by the why and how of site reliability engineering. It walks you through the jobs of an SRE, from the automation of CI/CD pipelines and reducing toil to reliability best practices. You'll learn what creates bad code and how to circumvent it with reliable design and patterns. The book also guides you through interacting and negotiating with businesses and vendors on various technical matters and exploring observability, outages, and why and how to craft an excellent runbook. Finally, you'll learn how to elevate your site reliability engineering career, including certifications and interview tips and questions. By the end of this book, you'll be able to identify and measure reliability, reduce downtime, troubleshoot outages, and enhance productivity to become a true rockstar SRE! What you will learn Get insights into the SRE role and its evolution, starting from Google's original vision Understand the key terms, such as golden signals, SLO, SLI, MTBF, MTTR, and MTTD Overcome the challenges in adopting site reliability engineering Employ reliable architecture and deployments with serverless, containerization, and release strategies Identify monitoring targets and determine observability strategy Reduce toil and leverage root cause analysis to enhance efficiency and reliability Realize how business decisions can impact quality and reliability Who this book is for This book is for IT professionals, including developers looking to advance into an SRE role, system administrators mastering technologies, and executives experiencing repeated downtime in their organizations. Anyone interested in bringing reliability and automation to their organization to drive down customer impact and revenue loss while increasing development throughput will find this book useful. A basic understanding of API and web architecture and some experience with cloud computing and services will assist with understanding the concepts covered.

"Software controls a lot of aspects in our everyday lives, such as our home appliances, phones, cars, and many other computerized entertainment options. Because we are so dependent on it, it is important that software is reliable at all times, and this is where software reliability comes into play. Software reliability is the probability of a failure-free operation of a computer program / device and helps to find defects where humans are unable to do so. The importance of software reliability, along with its complexity and external constraints, mean that a software reliability program should be planned and implemented early in development and monitored and adjusted as needed"--
