Abstract

Multifaceted Role of IL-1 in Cancer and Inflammation summarizes the existing literature and discusses future perspectives about the role of IL-1 in immune suppression, cancer progression, angiogenesis, and resistance to immunotherapies. The book presents mechanisms to overcome IL-1 mediated immune suppression in tumor microenvironment and covers topics on the source of IL-1 in the tumor microenvironment, IL-1 mediated downstream pathway, mechanism of IL-1 mediated immune suppression in cancer, and its effect on immunotherapy of cancer. Those topics help readers understand the effect of IL-1 on cancer immunopathology and immunotherapy, and provide them with broader concepts to develop therapies for IL-1 enrichment tumors.

Abstract

Gastrointestinal cancers are among the most prevalent malignancies worldwide, with high rate of global cancer incidence and cancer-related death. Gastrointestinal cancers include esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and liver cancer, which all, except the last one, are covered in this volume. The fourth volume of the “Interdisciplinary Cancer Research” series, entitled “Gastrointestinal Cancers: An Interdisciplinary Approach” publishes comprehensive volumes on mechanisms of gastrointestinal cancers and novel immunotherapy opportunities and presents the most updated and peer-reviewed chapters on gastrointestinal cancers therapy. This interdisciplinary series is of special value to researchers working on cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, genetics, and practitioners working on oncology and gastroenterology. This is the main concept of Cancer Immunology Project (CIP), which is a part of Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN). This interdisciplinary book will be of special value for researchers, oncologists, and gastroenterologists who wish to extend their knowledge on gastrointestinal cancers.

Abstract

This is the fifth volume of the highly regarded Physics of Cancer (Second Edition) series, written with the aim of making very important topics in the physics of cancer visible to the research community. This fifth volume deals with biophysical methods. The first chapter presents the traditional NMR techniques and introduces the relatively new MRE technique for the characterization of cancer cells and tissues. The second chapter provides an overview of magnetic tweezer techniques relevant to cell characterization. The third chapter focusses on the magnetic twisting cytometry techniques. The fourth and fifth chapters discuss the cytoskeletal remodeling dynamics from a biological viewpoint and a physical viewpoint, respectively. The optical tweezer is introduced in the sixth chapter and the optical cell stretcher is discussed in the seventh chapter. In the eighth chapter, microfluidics-based high-throughput cell stretching is discussed and the latest developments are presented. Part of Biophysical Society-IOP series.

Abstract

This is the fourth volume of the highly regarded Physics of Cancer (Second Edition) series, written with the aim of making very important topics in the physics of cancer visible to the research community. This fourth volume deals with mechanobiology using biophysical methods. The first chapter deals with mechanosensing and mechanotransduction on vastly different length scales. The second chapter discusses biophysical techniques for mechanical phenotype characterization of cells and nuclei. The third provides an overview of the mechanical phenotype of the plasma membrane. The fourth chapter contains the latest insights into the mechanical assessment of cell spheroids, organoids and tumoroids. The basic approach of this text is to present the latest promising findings to the scientific community, addressing scientists at all career stages. Part of Biophysical Society-IOP series.

Abstract

Engineering and Physical Approaches to Cancer addresses the newest research at this interface between cancer biology and the physical sciences. Several chapters address the mechanobiology of collective and individual cell migration, including experimental, theoretical, and computational perspectives. Other chapters consider the crosstalk of biological, chemical, and physical cues in the tumor microenvironment, including the role of senescence, polyploid giant cells, TGF-beta, metabolism, and immune cells. Further, chapters focus on circulating tumor cells and metastatic colonization, highlighting both bioengineered models as well as diagnostic technologies. Further, this book features the work of emerging and diverse investigators in this field, who have already made impressive cross-disciplinary scientific contributions. This book is designed for a general audience, particularly researchers conversant in cancer biology but less familiar with engineering (and vice-versa). Thus, we envision that this book will be suitable for faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and advanced graduate students across medicine, biological sciences, and engineering. We also anticipate this book will be of interest to medical professionals and trainees, as well as researchers in the pharmaceutical and biomedical device industry.

Abstract

This volume is the first on the market to address and discuss the emerging field of cancer neuroscience. Edited by pioneers in the field with contributions from top researchers, the volume serves as a comprehensive overview of the role of nerves in tumorigenesis and cancer progression. Chapters will address how the innervation of tumors can serve as both prognostic and predictive biomarkers as well as actionable therapeutic targets. Authors will describe current research efforts, and future directions for study and translation to the clinic. It is becoming increasingly apparent that certain treatments will need to consider interactions between the nervous system and cancer, and the novel concepts presented in the book address related accumulating evidence regarding therapeutic strategies. This unique volume will be useful for cancer researchers, neuroscientists, cancer biologists, oncologists, and others looking to gain a greater understanding of this emerging field.
