This thesis by Emilia Holmbom Strid explores the heightened positive emotions of young children in preschool settings, focusing on their interactions with peers and teachers. Through a multimodal interaction analysis of 40 hours of video-ethnographic recordings from a Swedish preschool, the study examines how children invite and reciprocate laughter, invoke excitement for joint attention, and how teachers choreograph suspense to engage children in educational activities. The research aims to provide insights into the social and communicative challenges and affordances in these multiparty interactions, offering a unique perspective on the positive emotional displays in early childhood education.
