Abstract

This handbook covers Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCT-A) with a specific focus on choroidal and vitreoretinal disorders. It serves as an invaluable resource for teaching and aiding daily clinical decision-making in the field. Book chapters dissect the fundamentals of angiography through OCT, offering guidance on OCT-A and insights into macular perfusional findings across various vitreoretinal and choroidal pathologies. From diabetic retinopathy to autoimmune diseases and neovascularization, the book addresses prevalent vascular entities encountered in routine practice. Furthermore, it explores innovative approaches, including antivascular endothelial growth factor molecules and extended-release delivery devices, contributing significantly to the diagnostic and decision-making processes in clinical and surgical retina care. Each chapter is contributed by experts in the relevant subspecialty. Key Features: Practical, patient-centered guide emphasizing a clinical approach.Demonstrative clinical cases for enhanced understanding.Evaluation of perfusional indices using noninvasive and noncontact imaging techniques.High histopathological correlation of structural tissue characterization with microvascular evaluation.Exploration of new perfusion concepts and their role in disease pathogenesis. Part 1 of the book focuses on OCT-A principles and applications in ophthalmology. It covers the basics of OCT-A, its contributions to eye disease study and treatment, and a comparative analysis with OCT for choroidal and vitreoretinal diseases. Additional information on nomenclature, normative datasets, and data analysis, presenting indices in different eye conditions is also presented. The emphasis is on macular perfusion in surgically resolved myopic foveoretinal detachment, postoperative evaluation in retinal detachment, and long-term analysis in diabetic retinopathy.

Part 2 covers advanced topics in OCT-A for choroidal and vitreoretinal disorders. Chapters explore macular perfusional repercussions in obstructive venous vascular phenomena, OCT-A findings in retinal infarction, and the role of macular perfusion in myopic macular traction maculopathy. Further discussions include postoperative perfusional findings in vitreoretinopathy, distinctions in choroidal vasculopathies, and the application of OCT-A in managing pathological choroidal neovascularization. The part concludes with a review of postoperative membrane formation, the usefulness of OCT-A in neurodegenerative diseases, and the evaluation of arterial occlusions and choroidal neovascularization management. Readership Ophthalmology students, residents and clinicians, who want to learn about on choroid and vitreoretinal diseases and complex cases.

Abstract

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has dramatically revolutionized ophthalmology in the clinical setting. It has become an indispensable tool for ophthalmologists, enabling them to visualize and diagnose several different ocular diseases. With the advent of OCT, the diagnosis and management of ocular diseases have become even more accurate, efficient, and patient friendly. A new generation of OCT technology with increased resolution and speed has been developed, achieving in vivo optical biopsy (i.e., visualization of tissue architectural morphology in situ and in real-time). Functional extensions of OCT technology enable noninvasive, depth-resolved functional assessment and tissue imaging. This comprehensive and richly illustrated guide enables the reader to identify the anatomy and ophthalmic pathologies illustrated by OCT. It is the most up-to-date book on OCT. All the major pathological areas of ophthalmology are covered, including macular degeneration, uveitis, glaucoma, vascular diseases, and glaucoma abnormalities, as well as other hot topics.

Abstract

This academic thesis by Abbas Al-Hawasi explores the use of Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to examine retinal ganglion cells and their potential to reflect physiological and pathological changes in the eye and brain. The study investigates the effects of various conditions such as optic neuritis, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and multiple sclerosis on retinal structures. It highlights how OCT can identify changes in retinal layers, offering insights into disease progression and physiological impacts. The work is intended for a medical and academic audience, particularly those in ophthalmology and neuroscience, aiming to enhance understanding and diagnostic capabilities in eye and brain health.

Abstract

Unparalleled for aiding diagnosis of retinal disease and recording disease progression, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) remains one of the most significant advances in ophthalmology over the past 50 years. Atlas of Retinal OCT, 2nd Edition, provides expert guidance in making the most of this diagnostic tool with high-quality, oversized images that show precise detail and assist with rapid, accurate clinical decision making. Led by the same expert team of Drs. Jay S. Duker, Nadia K. Waheed, and Darin R. Goldman, and with the addition of new editor Dr. Shilpa J. Desai, this atlas remains your "go to? reference source for OCT imaging of the retina. Now updated throughout to align with current practice, it covers a range of both common and rare disorders and presentations. Features more than 1,000 high-quality illustrations depicting the full spectrum of retinal diseases using OCT and OCTA scans, supported by clinical photos and ancillary imaging technologies. Contains new and updated image examples throughout-including new OCTA images with artifacts and key findings highlighted. Presents images as large as possible on the page with an abundance of arrows, pointers, and labels to guide you in pattern recognition and eliminate any uncertainty. Includes the latest high-resolution spectral domain OCT technology and new insights into OCT angiography technology to ensure you have the most up-to-date and highest quality examples available. Provides key feature points for each disorder, giving you the need-to-know OCT essentials for quick comprehension and rapid reference. An excellent diagnostic companion to Handbook of Retinal OCT: Optical Coherence Tomography, 2nd Edition. An eBook version is included with purchase. The eBook allows you to access all of the text, figures and references, with the ability to search, customize your content, make notes and highlights, and have content read aloud.

Abstract

The aim of this book is to explain this new technology and its advantages over previous imaging devices and to illustrate how it may be used in to define eye diseases, and in their treatment and facilitate treatment options. This atlas introduces the technical principles of SS-OCT imaging, OCTA stratification algorithm, and blood flow quantization. Through a collection of images and annotation of the microstructures of both the normal fundus and diseased eyes (for example, vitreous related disease, retinal diseased and choroidal disease) captured on SS-OCT to deepen the understanding of this new technology, as well as the interpretation of images. This atlas serves as a practical guide and is written for retinal specialist and clinicians with an interest in retinal diseases.
