By re-examining Nietzsche's notion of the "eternal-feminine" and his views on women and feminism, this volume offers new perspectives on some of his key ideas. It brings together a diverse group of scholars tocritically engage with Nietzsche's use of late-19th-century gender stereotypes and the ways in which they served his critique of values, including his use of "woman" as a trope for truth. Among other subjects, the contributors consider the role of psychology in Nietzsche's thought, his concern with style, self-creation, and advocacy of perfectionism, his views on romantic love and marriage, and his aim of revaluing all values to instigate a distant philosophy of the future. They investigate parallels between Nietzsche's thought and Shaktism, his relation to Goethe and Stendahl, and his influence on Beauvoir, Butler, and Dohm. With the inclusion of two seminal essays on Nietzsche and women by Lawrence J. Hatab and Kelly Oliver, the volume also illustrates some of the ways in which scholarship on these subjects has evolved over the last four decades. Providing fresh insights into these inter-related subjects, Nietzsche on Women and the Eternal-Feminine highlights the enduring relevance of his thought and its still-underappreciated potential for re-thinking both the bases for and aims of feminism and other emancipatory movements.

An der Heidelberger Akademie der Wissenschaften entsteht der erste umfassende historische und kritische Kommentar zum Werk Friedrich Nietzsches. Obwohl Nietzsche zu den wirkungsmächtigsten Denkern der Moderne gehört, fehlte bisher ein übergreifender Kommentar zu seinem Gesamtwerk, der die philosophischen, historischen und literarischen Voraussetzungen und Kontexte erschließt. Für die künftige Nietzsche-Forschung bildet dieser Kommentar zu Friedrich Nietzsches Werken eine unentbehrliche Grundlage. Die Ausgabe wird 2023 abgeschlossen sein. The Heidelberg Academy of Sciences is undertaking the first comprehensive historical and critical commentary of Friedrich Nietzsche’s works. Although Nietzsche is one of the most influential thinkers of the modern age, until now, no general commentary on his oeuvre has been published that addresses the full spectrum of philosophical, historical, and literary contexts and sources that inform his work. This commentary on the works of Friedrich Nietzsche will be an invaluable foundation for future Nietzsche research.The edition will be completed in 2023.

Redécouvrir le projet de recherche collectif, interdisciplinaire et fondamentalement ouvert que Nietzsche a présenté dans la Généalogie de la morale en 1887 constitue la visée de ce livre. Paradoxalement, la généalogie nietzschéenne a en effet été méconnue par les premiers interprètes qui en ont fait un philosophème à part entière : en particulier par Gilles Deleuze, dont le Nietzsche et la philosophie, paru en 1962, a présenté à tort la généalogie de la morale comme un concept propre à Nietzsche. Ce n'est pas ce que nous dit Nietzsche et il est essentiel de l’entendre. Car non seulement Nietzsche se reconnaît des prédécesseurs en matière de généalogie, comme l’Allemand Paul Rée et l’Anglais Herbert Spencer, mais son intervention personnelle dans ce champ consiste bien souvent à corriger des hypothèses antérieures trop « azurées ». Il faut donc lire les auteurs que Nietzsche a lus pour mesurer ses dettes, discerner ses originalités et saisir les enjeux de son travail. On mesure ainsi le sérieux philologique de son entreprise, qui en accroît à vrai dire la portée philosophique, y compris dans une perspective contemporaine.
