This book concisely explores the distinguishing features of scientific knowledge and research in early childhood education and care (ECEC). It has a dual-level focus of containing and relating the concrete practices of conducting research with the more fundamental conceptual discussions around research – the Bildung of the researcher. The book introduces and succinctly explains the concepts of methodology, theoretical knowledge about method, and how all parts of conducting research are informed by theory. The interrelation of these concepts, and many premises of research, are often regarded as assumed knowledge. In this book, premises of research are explicated and discussed, as well as methods on how to engage in informed dialogue. This introductory text explicates many features of scientific knowing and knowledge building in ECEC that tend to be presumed rather than clarified. It will be important in furthering the professional development of PhD students, Master’s students, supervisors, and researchers.

This book provides holistic guidance and proposes practical frameworks to navigate complex learning environments in the rapidly evolving climate, and an environment to facilitate effective learning and knowledge transfer, while advocating a shift in the learning culture, and culture of learning, in varying contexts. It serves well for varying and cross-disciplinary clusters of individuals, particularly for academics, senior management of higher education institutions, and senior leaders of corporate organizations. This book equips readers with a deeper understanding of the evolving and dynamic issues that need to be addressed in the higher education context; to handle multifaceted situations in the process of engaging University students to be nurtured as future global leaders and knowledge workers. “It provides a comprehensive and in-depth analyses of practice-oriented strategies that are evidence-based… It nudges educators to venture into unchartered waters in higher learning that includes immersive technologies and AI for education. This book helps educators to be well-equipped and competent with the key skills for future learning.” — Professor S.H. Annabel Chen, Professor of Psychology, School of Social Sciences, Director, Centre for Research and Development in Learning (CRADLE), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore “The book delivers a total of 10 chapters that are rich in evidence and provide practice-oriented frameworks for those involved in advancing transformative and innovative learning strategies in socio-cultural contexts. The amazing set of insights and practical – and policy-related recommendations serve as positive transformational changes in higher education, focusing on specifics of the much under-researched notion of learning intelligence.” — Associate Professor Churchill, Daniel, Academic Unit of Teacher Education and Learning Leadership, Faculty of Education, The University of Hong Kong “Combining scientific evidence with practical as well a futuristic approaches, the book offers invaluable theoretical and applied knowledge.” — Associate Professor George Christopoulos, Ph.D. (University of Cambridge), Assistant Dean (Research), Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

This book introduces the outcomes of author’s 40 years of research, especially the theory of “the Triangular Pyramid Structure of Thinking” that he independently proposed, and the application of his development theory in the field of mathematics education. The book firstly explains the substantial character of intelligence, the development law of intelligence, and the relationship between intelligence development and creativity cultivation. Secondly, it discusses the structure of mathematical thinking of children and adolescents from 0 to 18 years old, and the methods of developing students’ thinking ability and the quality of intelligence through arithmetic learning. In the end, this book also demonstrates the characteristics of the development of mathematical thinking ability of children at age 0-6, elementary school students, and secondary school students, and the related latest research in this field. Based on the theory of “the Triangular Pyramid Structure of Thinking”, a number of examples are given to illustrate how the theory of intelligence development can be used in mathematics teaching to promote the development of students’ thinking abilities and to improve the quality of teaching. This book covers various areas including psychology, mathematics, and education. It has a great reference value for scholars in the field of psychology to study the theory of intelligence and the structure of thinking, providing guidance for parents and mathematics teachers to promote children’s quality of intelligence and mathematical thinking abilities, and to enhance their mathematics learning effects. In addition, it provides examples for psychological research to serve specific subject teaching in elementary and secondary schools.

This open access book explores new developments in various aspects of peer learning processes and outcomes. It brings together research studies examining how peer feedback, peer assessment, and small group learning activities can be designed to maximize learning outcomes in higher, but also secondary, education. Conceptual models and methodological frameworks are presented to guide teachers and educational designers for successful implementation of peer learning activities with the hope of maximizing the effectiveness of peer learning in real educational classrooms. There is a strong emphasis on how technology-enhanced tools can advance peer learning, both with respect to designing and implementing learning activities, as well as analyzing learning processes and outcomes. By providing empirical studies from different peer learning initiatives, both teachers and students in academic and professional contexts are informed about the state of the art developments of peer learning. This book contributes to the understanding of peer learning challenges and solutions in all level of education and provide avenues for future research. It includes theoretical, methodological, and empirical chapters which makes it a useful tool for both teaching and research.
