Abstract

The theme of entrepreneurship in the post-pandemic context is essential for the economic and social revitalization of economies. Despite this importance, this theme has hardly been explored, and therefore one of the central aspects of this reprint is to bring the debate on the competitiveness of micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises in various sectors to academic discussion. Through 11 chapters, involving the collaboration of more than 30 authors, this reprint pragmatically discusses a wide range of strategies and critical success factors for fostering entrepreneurship. This reprint also presents a set of practical solutions for various sectors, from tourism to agriculture, covering several countries, from Latin America to Asia to Europe. The various chapters present very diverse methodological approaches.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship is defined in different fields with definitions ranging from a specific perspective such as starting a business to a broader perspective such as a process of establishing new social, economic, environmental, institutional, cultural and/or scientific environments. There has been some movement toward entrepreneurship in STEM education through hackathons and makerspaces, but they tend to be limited to informal settings. In higher education, there seems to be a border line between business schools and education departments. This book aims to remove the borders between the Business Schools and the Department of Education and help Business Schools to develop their educational practices further and help Education Departments to develop their knowledge of entrepreneurship from its formal discipline. The purpose of this book is to bring together experts from STEM education and the formal discipline of entrepreneurship to explore the role of STEM in everyday life through an entrepreneurial lens and show how this integration can broaden STEM education practices.

Abstract

In response to the increasing move by scholars to reference other fields of knowledge in the advancement of entrepreneurship studies, this book offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of entrepreneurship. The author investigates five main issues about entrepreneurial processes:the origin of entrepreneurship, the purpose to achieve, the way decisions are made, the creation of entrepreneurial networks and ecosystems. Respectively, these issues are analysed from new perspectives related to other disciplines, such as mythology, philosophy, mathematics, chemistry, and biology. In this way, the book investigates pervading questions about entrepreneurial processes that are still unsolved. By adopting this novel interdisciplinary approach, the book opens up new avenues of research in entrepreneurship studies. Diego Matricano, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Startup and Innovation at the Department of Management of Università degli Studi della Campania “L. Vanvitelli”. His research, focused on entrepreneurship, innovation, and digitalization, has appeared in distinguished scientific journals and several monographs. Habitually, he joins national and international conferences to present his research output. .

Abstract

Few would deny the crucial role that entrepreneurs play in our increasingly global economy-but exactly what is this vital, yet loosely defined business force we call the entrepreneurial spirit? This landmark study is the first to examine analytically the nature of the opportunities that entrepreneurs pursue, the problems they face, the traits they require, and the social and economic contributions they make. Until recently, entrepreneurs have been largely ignored in modern economic theory. But at the dawn of a networked age, marked by the advent of e-business and the home office, there's no question that entrepreneurs have recaptured the popular imagination. Studies now show that most men and women dream of starting their own businesses rather than rising through the corporate ranks. Yet in spite of increased attention by many of today's leading business schools, entrepreneurship has remained largely a mystery, an apparently intuitive sense of values possessed by certain individuals.; This book targets the issues central to successful start-up ventures, such as endowments and opportunities, planning versus adaptation, securing resources, corporate initiatives, venture capital, revolutionary ventures and the evolution of fledgling businesses. Focusing on hard data and evaluations of numerous start-up businesses, including many of today's major industry leaders, this book presents a new economic model-a key to understanding the guts, determination, luck and skills that constitute the underpinnings of corporate success. Written in clear, concise prose, The Origin and Evolution of New Businesses goes behind the charts and graphs of business theory to the true heart of success. It is essential reading for business students, would-be entrepreneurs, or executives wanting to incorporate the vitality of the entrepreneurial spirit into their organization.
