Writing for Inquiry and Research guides students through the composition process of writing a research paper. The book divides this process into four chapters that each focus on a genre connected to research writing: the annotated bibliography, proposal, literature review, and research essay. Each chapter provides significant guidance with reading, writing, and research strategies, along with significant examples and links to external resources. This book serves to help students and instructors with a writing-project-based approach, transforming the research process into an accessible series of smaller, more attainable steps for a semester-long course in research writing. Additional resources throughout the book, as well as in three appendices, allow for students and instructors to explore the many facets of the writing process together.

"This practical manual provides face-to-face and/or virtual strategies for teachers to use as they prepare and motivate their students. Students need well-developed executive functions skills as prerequisites to learn content or self-regulate appropriate social interactions. These executive function skills are the necessary everyday life skills one needs to successfully interact with the environment in a variety of settings. Metacognitive strategies explicitly taught provide students the tools to engage and benefit from classroom instruction through use of a learned executive function skill set. This book includes strategies shown most effective in facilitating students' readiness and success in learning. Each group of 25 grade appropriate executive function strategies address student difficulties in areas such as planning, working memory, time management, inhibitory behavior, cognitive flexibility, and self-regulation. The strategies are grouped according to elementary, middle, and high school to ensure the book is applicable to students of all ages and abilities"--

"Meeting students' basic needs - including ensuring they have access to nutritious meals and a sense of belonging and connection to school - can positively influence students' academic performance. Recognizing this connection, schools provide resources in the form of school meals programs, school nurses, and school guidance counselors. However, these resources are not always available to students and are not always prioritized in school reform policies, which tend to focus more narrowly on academic learning. This book is about the balancing act that schools and their teachers undertake to respond to the social, emotional, and material needs of their students in the context of standardized testing and accountability policies. Drawing on conversations with teachers and classroom observations in two elementary schools, How Schools Meet Students' Needs explores the factors that both enable and constrain teachers in their efforts to meet students' needs and the consequences of how schools organize this work on teachers' labor and students' learning"--
