Risk, Reliability and Sustainable Remediation in the Field of Civil and Environmental Engineering illustrates the concepts of risk, reliability analysis, its estimation, and the decisions leading to sustainable development in the field of civil and environmental engineering. The book provides key ideas on risks in performance failure and structural failures of all processes involved in civil and environmental systems, evaluates reliability, and discusses the implications of measurable indicators of sustainability in important aspects of multitude of civil engineering projects. It will help practitioners become familiar with tolerances in design parameters, uncertainties in the environment, and applications in civil and environmental systems. Furthermore, the book emphasizes the importance of risks involved in design and planning stages and covers reliability techniques to discover and remove the potential failures to achieve a sustainable development.

This book proposes a critical public relations approach to analyzing crisis communication with Malaysia Airlines flight 370 (MH370) disappearance (2014-2018) as a case study. It examines the discursive process of Malaysia's crisis response and image building, tracing Malaysia Airlines during the immediate response and the Malaysian establishment until the official suspension of the underwater search. The study features a critical discourse analysis of 84 national media texts and 85 response statements, focusing on three aspects: the national media representations of Malaysia's image, the national carrier and the government's rhetorical strategies of delivering stances and actions, and the dynamic process of image reconstruction and national recovery. The present project contributes to the current research area by integrating both linguistic and public relations perspectives, and more importantly, by highlighting the ideological impact instead of merely behavioral effectiveness in modern communication research. Target readers may find their interest in corporate crisis communication, critical inquiry about political public relations, and the MH370 incident in general.

The problem of rock mechanics and engineering is an old and new subject encountered by human beings in their struggle with nature for survival and development. To call it ancient means that it has a long history; however, speaking of it as brand-new refers to the continuous emergence of new problems and new situations in engineering practice, which is quite challenging. With the development of human engineering activities, the issues surrounding rock engineering are becoming more and more prominent, and the problems encountered are becoming more and more complex. In the practice of solving complex rock engineering, human beings have summarized many topics that are difficult to explain or solve with classical mechanics.
Technology: general issues --- History of engineering & technology --- kaolin --- cemented coal gangue-fly ash backfill sample --- mechanical properties --- macroscopic failure --- microstructure --- non-pillar coal mining --- crushed rocks --- compression test --- deformation characteristics --- lateral stress --- tunnel through fault --- concrete lining structure --- fault dislocation --- seismic deterioration effect --- dynamic contact force --- seismic damage analysis --- directions of incident waves --- slope topography --- amplification effects --- ground motions --- equivalent nodal forces --- tight sandstone gas reservoirs --- rock-physics template --- Biot-Rayleigh theory --- total porosity --- microcrack porosity --- kaolin --- cemented coal gangue-fly ash backfill sample --- mechanical properties --- macroscopic failure --- microstructure --- non-pillar coal mining --- crushed rocks --- compression test --- deformation characteristics --- lateral stress --- tunnel through fault --- concrete lining structure --- fault dislocation --- seismic deterioration effect --- dynamic contact force --- seismic damage analysis --- directions of incident waves --- slope topography --- amplification effects --- ground motions --- equivalent nodal forces --- tight sandstone gas reservoirs --- rock-physics template --- Biot-Rayleigh theory --- total porosity --- microcrack porosity

Cultural competence has been acknowledged as an important set of skills and mindset for working effectively with diverse patients and for reducing social disparities in healthcare. In this Special Issue cultural competence was approached as an umbrella term and submissions relating to the whole spectrum of the concept were invited. Nine papers are published, 7 of which are research articles, 1 is a concept paper and 1 is a review, from authors from Spain, the UK, Germany, Denmark, Cyprus, France, Portugal, and Brazil. These 9 articles discuss a variety of concepts and aspects of cultural competence, such as cultural communication, cultural humility, diversity competence, and structural competence, and highlight the importance of cultural competence in healthcare and healthcare education, while opening new directions in research and policy making.
