In 2017 verkozen filmcritici de Amerikaanse regisseur Richard Linklater (1960) tot beste regisseur van de afgelopen vijfentwintig jaar. In deze periode maakte hij furore met onder meer het veelbekroonde Boyhood, de Before-trilogie en Dazed and Confused.Naast filmische zijn er ook filosofische redenen om naar Linklaters films te kijken. Linklater staat bekend als een regisseur die weergaloos met tijd speelt. Sommige van zijn films spelen zich af in een dag of een paar uur, maar Boyhood beslaat maar liefst twaalf jaar. De vraag hoe wij ons verhouden tot het voorbijgaan van de tijd is cruciaal in het oeuvre van Linklater.

1994 - de laatste weken van de zomervakantie. Voor de veertienjarige Harold lijkt die nog net iets langer te duren dan voor zijn jongere broer, Carl. Doordeweeks bij opa en oma geparkeerd, valt er vooral voor Harold weinig te beleven. Gelukkig worden beide broers elke zondag op sleeptouw genomen door de eigengereide Peter, een klasgenoot van Harold. Door een bijzondere vondst in een verlaten huisje, komt hun verknipte driehoeksverhouding echter onder spanning te staan.

Improvisation infiltrates almost all dance, theatre and music practices, but when it becomes the essential modality through which performance is constructed, when it becomes a specific practice, a technique, a knowledge, an artistic trend, shouldn’t another word have been invented? When, moreover, this improvisation is practised, transmitted and commented on, at least since the 1960s in the United States, before it was picked up in Europe, don't we need for a book written by those who practise it, transmit it and carry it out at the heart of a lively practice today? This is a book which brings together content and form, an effervescent book which talks about improvisation, about "real time composition", by improvising.

"Tala Madani: Biscuits accompanies the first North American survey of the Iranian-born artist's paintings and animations. Organized by The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), the exhibition brings together fifteen years of the artist's incisive work, highlighting the often absurd socio-cultural dynamics enacted within Madani's art and, more broadly, the potent and combustible relationship between art history and global history. The publication is the most comprehensive on Madani's work to date. Door het waterrijke landschap van West-Nederland slingert zich een gordel van bijna honderd monumentale forten: de Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie en de Stelling van Amsterdam. Ze vertellen het bijzondere verhaal over hoe ons land zijn verdediging organiseerde met een ingenieus watersysteem en indrukwekkende bouwwerken. Onlangs zijn deze historische verdedigingswerken als Hollandse Waterlinies samen tot Unesco-werelderfgoed verklaard. Het behoud van het erfgoed ging hand in hand met vernieuwing. Prachtige, eigentijdse ontwerpen voegden zich in de historische omgeving. In Wisseling van de wacht worden de beide waterlinies voor het eerst samen beschreven: zowel de ontwikkelingsgeschiedenis als de creatieve aanpak van ontwerpers, ondernemers, bestuurders en de vele vrijwilligers.
