Abstract

This authoritative volume presents a detailed analysis of the replication crisis and the use of questionable research practices (QRPs) in psychology, as well as recommended practices for combatting these problems. Ultimately, the book aims to provide a comprehensive, current, and accessible account of the adverse effects of QRPs. The replication crisis in psychology and allied fields has exposed critical flaws in the standard views of research methods, which allow for extensive flexibility in data analysis by investigators and permit the widespread use of QRPs. Chapters examine the intentional use of QRPs such as data fabrication and falsification, along with subtler, unintentional practices such as p-hacking and HARKING (hypothesizing after results are known). Drawing on the growing awareness of these problems, contributors also highlight potential strategies to detect QRPs and minimize their negative impact through open data practices, preregistration of hypotheses and analyses, and adversarial collaborations, in which investigators holding opposing positions on a scientific issue agree to work together on a study in an effort to counteract their respective biases. Abstract

This book presents for the first time the results of scientific research in the field of special education and special psychology carried out by top experts of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. The range of problems discussed in the book reflects the most relevant areas of development of the education system and psychological and pedagogical assistance to children with special educational needs (SEN). Both scientific and methodological developments provide practitioners with modern means of diagnostic, correctional, developmental, and preventive work. Furthermore, responding to the current challenges, the authors present the results of research on the impact of virtual reality on the health of adolescents, the results of an experiment on the study and formation of financial literacy of high-school kids with developmental disorders, highlight approaches to the prevention of auto aggressive behavior in the adolescent environment, and offer the proven technologies for psychological and pedagogical habilitation and rehabilitation of children with SEN of various nosologic groups and children with somatic pathology studying at a hospital school. The theoretical block of the book includes an analysis of the fundamental problems of today’s pedagogical and social reality: substantiation of conceptual approaches to the construction of an inclusive space, consideration of the basic psychophysiological mechanisms of speech, the formation of a convergent network educational environment and some other problems that can directly or indirectly affect the quality of education, upbringing, and social adaptation of children with SEN. The book is intended for psychologists, special-need experts, teachers, methodologists, employees of educational organizations working with children with disabilities, specialists in the field of inclusive education, students and teachers of special education, and pedagogical and psychological departments of higher education institutions.

Abstract

The book provides a comprehensive analyses of Vygotsky’s and Piaget’s theories implementation in modern preschool education.It analyzes the problem of the relationship between the natural and the cultural in the context of Vygotsky and Jean Piaget theories. Their discourses complemented each other: whereas Vygotsky developed his theory in the direction from society (culture) to the individual child, Piaget’s movement was the opposite: from individual child to society. These two approaches confront modern world with the need to analyze the problem of childhood: is childhood a period of cultural exploration or is it a special form of relationship in which both the egocentrism and consciousness of the child, and the egocentrism and consciousness of culture are represented? Readers will gain insight into the methodology that makes possible to unite up-to-date views based on Vygotsky and Piaget theories on child development and education. .
