Zonder twijfel is David een van de belangrijkste figuren uit de Bijbel. Hij is er de koning die Jeruzalem tot hoofdstad van Israël maakte en de eerste voorbereidingen trof voor de bouw van de tempel door zijn zoon Salomo. Hij geldt er als de grondlegger van de Davidische dynastie en de voorloper van de te verwachten Messias. Bijna zestig keer komt zijn naam voor in het Nieuwe Testament en Jezus wordt er ‘zoon van David’ genoemd. De Didachè-studiedagen Bijbel, die jaarlijks in Leuven worden georganiseerd door de Vlaamse Bijbelstichting in samenwerking met de Faculteit Theologie en Religiewetenschappen van de KU Leuven, waren in 2021 gewijd aan David. Er werd nader ingegaan op de historische achtergrond, de narratieve opbouw en de theologische betekenis van de verhalen over David in de boeken Samuël, Koningen en Kronieken. De verdere doorwerking van de Davidfiguur in andere teksten binnen en buiten de Bijbel en in de kunst kwam een bod, evenals de wijze waarop de verhalen over David een inspiratiebron kunnen zijn in godsdienstonderwijs, catechese en pastoraal. In dit boek worden de teksten van de lezingen gebundeld. De bijdragen werden geschreven door Hans Ausloos, Bryan Beeckman, Hans Debel, Kolet Janssen, Bénédicte Lemmelijn, Hector Patmore, Klaas Smelik, Koert van Bekkum en Eveline van Staalduine-Sulman.

Why does Jephthah's daughter weep? Readers have creatively imagined the causes of her tears as she weeps upon her betulim -usually translated virginity or maidenhood. But her menstrual cycle's relation to these terms is rarely mentioned. A child-oriented theoretical and methodological foundation and research with post-menarcheal girls provide new answers to oft-raised questions about Bat-Yiphtach's weeping and her agency. Through an in-depth philological review and a focus on the "excluded middle" of the child-adult binary, this translation and interpretation of the story contribute to the field of childhood studies and shows that menarche and menstruation play a larger role in the narrative than readers have realized.

This work, edited by Henryk Drawnel, contains the posthumous edition and commentary of the Aramaic Testament of Levi by Józef Tadeusz Milik. The composition of Levi presents the reader with the autobiographical account of the life of Levi, the patriarch of the eponymous priestly tribe in ancient Israel. Based on the available manuscripts from Qumran (4Q21; 4Q213; 4Q214; 4Q540; 4Q548), Mount Athos and the Cairo Genizah, the author of the monograph reconstructs the Aramaic form of the text, including some parts of the Testament Greek of Levi (Test. 12 Patr.), Jubilees and excerpts from patristic literature. The first chapter, written by Henryk Drawnel, introduces the reader to the monograph and presents an overview of Milik's use of the manuscripts in the reconstructed text as well as the general plan for a larger undertaking: publishing. Migraties en deportaties tekenen de geschiedenis van de mensheid. De bijbelse uittocht van het volk Israël uit de slavernij van Egypte naar het Beloofde Land is hiervan een iconisch voorbeeld. 0Intrigerend is de vraag naar de historische kern van het Exodusverhaal. Waren er inderdaad Israëlieten aanwezig in Egypte tijdens de faraonische periode? Is er een wetenschappelijke verklaring voor de bijbelse plagen? Wanneer vond de Exodus precies plaats?
