Abstract

This book provides a review of state-of-the-art technological developments in applied ultrasonics with a focus on recent advances in ultrasonic research, covering metrological applications, non-destructive evaluation, sensing, devices, and physics, as well as medical diagnosis and treatment. The first part of this book focuses on the physics of acoustic waves, and their propagation and addresses viscoelasticity, as well as metrological applications including laser ultrasonics. Part two reviews some recent developments of importance to industrial applications, while the final part introduces developments in biomedical applications.

Abstract

Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) is a technique which allows the three-dimensional, internal dynamics of opaque systems to be imaged with high temporal and spatial resolution. This book provides both an accessible introduction to, and a comprehensive reference guide for the PEPT technique.

Abstract

Flexible devices are gradually emerging as an alternative viable low-cost user-friendly technology for wearable health care services in different fields. Some of the attractive features of flexible devices are the integration of multiple sensing units with electronic circuits for any planar and non-planar mounting surfaces. With the advancement of flexible technologies, now the devices can be fabricated with superior response characteristics comparable to the conventional silicon IC technology. The purpose of the present book is to provide the readers with a single platform to develop a system using flexible sensors integrating with interfacing/signal conditioning, data conversion and communication circuits. Part of IOP Series in Sensors and Sensor Systems.

Abstract

This book reviews the emerging trends in electrochemical sensors based on carbon composite materials & their applications. Carbon composite materials-based sensors offer elevated sensitivity, selectivity, stability and accuracy compared to other techniques, as well as improved portability through miniaturization. The developed sensors can be applied for routine applications in clinical and industrial settings, as well as in fundamental scientific research as they offer information regarding the mechanism and kinetics of electron transfer reactions occurring at the fabricated electrode surface. The book reviews the emerging research trends and utilization of carbon composite material for electrochemical sensors development for a range of applications in pharmaceutical, industrial, environmental monitoring etc. The focus of this book makes it useful for scientific researchers from the fields of electrochemistry and sensor development that are expected to come together in the newly emerging interdisciplinary research area within electrochemical sensors. Part of IOP Series in Sensors and Sensor Systems.
