With this Festschrift colleagues and friends honor Terrence Merrigan on the occasion of his retirement from the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies, KU Leuven. The thirty-two contributions in this volume all show the exceptional quality of his research in different domains of theological study. Since the theology of John Henry Newman has inspired Terrence Merrigan throughout his entire career, the volume opens with a number of outstanding studies on various aspects of Newman's theology: his interaction with high church Anglicanism, his understanding of conscience, the theology of purgatory, but also the neglect of liturgical spirituality in Newman's theology. The contributions in the second part are devoted to the fields of Christology and Trinity, which comprise Merrigan's favorite theological disciplines. The contributions are situated on the intersection of contemporary Christology and its soteriological impact within a pluralistic and secularized context. The third part deals with the theology of interreligious dialogue, with special focus on the teachings of the Second Vatican Council, Jacques Dupuis's theology of religions, comparative theology, Jewish and Christian approaches to interreligious dialogue, and the phenomenon of double religious belonging. The fourth part explores the challenging relationship between faith and culture in an attempt to bridge the Christian tradition with the contemporary world. The present volume makes a distinguished and original contribution to these four important fields of theological research.

De l’oeuvre inachevée du grand penseur de l’Église que fut le père Laurent Villemin, brutalement interrompue en 2017, il nous reste, mieux que des fragments, les ébauches des traités essentiels qu’il avait déjà engagés et qu’il comptait mener à terme. Ces écrits sont ici réunis et distribués autour des quatre thèmes qui occupèrent cet inlassable chercheur : le concile Vatican II, l’ecclésiologie, l’institution, les ministères. Éléments forts et signifiants, ils présentent la charpente de son chantier théologique. Plus qu’une simple agrégation de textes, voici donc un livre dont la pertinence et la cohérence marquent l’intelligence de la foi. S’y dessinent des perspectives novatrices sur l’Église et s’y sublime le souci constant de faire dialoguer les disciplines théologiques avec les sciences humaines, le catholicisme avec les autres confessions chrétiennes et les autres formes religieuses, la vie ecclésiale avec la vie du monde. Un môle sûr au regard de la crise actuelle. Une pierre fondatrice pour la suite.

Zestig jaar geleden verscheen met De Kerk in Vlaanderen: pastoraal-sociologische studie van het leven en de structuur der Kerk van Jan Kerkhofs en Jean Van Houtte wellicht de eerste, alomvattende sociologische studie van het katholieke geloof en de Kerk in Vlaanderen. Achteraf beschouwd verscheen het boek op een keerpunt in de historische ontwikkeling van katholiek Vlaanderen. Hoewel de Kerk en haar zuilorganisaties toen nog een prominente positie innamen in maatschappij en cultuur, waren de eerste tekenen van de secularisatie, de terugval van het kerkbezoek en de tanende invloed van de katholieke Kerk op het maatschappelijke weefsel en het persoonlijke leven al zichtbaar.De bundel 'De Kerk in Vlaanderen' blikt terug op de enorme transformatie die Kerk en geloof in Vlaanderen de laatste zestig jaar hebben ondergaan. Welke gevolgen heeft de overgang van een sterk georganiseerde massakerk naar een kleinere, vaak in de verdediging gedrukte Kerk?
