Reflecting the debate between state-centered and human-security approaches to security strategy, Africa-US Relations explores the interactions between the US and African countries in a wide spectrum of key arenas. The authors range from such traditional security issues as peacekeeping and terrorism to concerns with HIV/AIDS, environmental degradation, aid policies, and international trade. Islamic theology had to wait a long time before being granted a place in the European universities. That happened above all in German-speaking areas, and this led to the development of new theological and religious pedagogical approaches. This volume presents one such approach and discusses it from various perspectives. It takes up different theological and religious pedagogical themes and reflects on them anew from the perspective of the contemporary context.The primary focus is on contemporary challenges and possible answers from the perspective of Islamic theology and religious pedagogy. It discusses general themes like the location of Islamic theology and religious pedagogy at secular European universities. The volume also explores concrete challenges, such as the extent to which Islamic religious pedagogy can be conceptualised anew, how it should deal with its own theological tradition in the contemporary context, and how a positive attitude towards worldview and religious plurality can be cultivated.At issue here are foundations of a new interpretation of Islam that takes into account both a reflective approach to the Islamic tradition and the contemporary context. In doing so, it gives Muslims the opportunity to take their own thinking further.

The essays in this collection are written to make readers (re)consider what is possible in Africa. The essays shake the tree of received wisdom and received categories, and hone in on the complexities of life under ecological and economic constraints. Yet, throughout this volume, people do not emerge as victims, but rather as inventors, engineers, scientists, planners, writers, artists, and activists, or as children, mothers, fathers, friends, or lovers – all as future-makers. It is precisely through agents such as these that Africa is futuring: rethinking, living, confronting, imagining, and relating in the light of its many emerging tomorrows.

Die Herausbildung einer jüdischen Wissenschaftsbewegung, die von der Haskala des späten 18. Jahrhunderts ihren Ausgang nahm und sich im 19. Jahrhundert in der Wissenschaft des Judentums manifestierte, war in vielfacher Hinsicht mit einer allgemeinen Transformation der Wissensordnungen in der Moderne verknüpft und verlieh dieser zugleich erkennbare Prägungen. Die Beiträge des vorliegenden Bandes thematisieren diese Entwicklungen vor dem Hintergrund von Diaspora und Migrationsbewegungen im mittel- und osteuropäischen Raum. Sie zeigen in Untersuchungen zur Epistemologie wissenschaftlicher Praktiken, zur Genese methodischer Verfahren und Konzepte oder zum Austausch theoretischer Ansätze die Entwicklungen der Wissenschaft des Judentums vor allem im Hinblick auf deren Wirkungen in der nicht-jüdischen Wissens- und Wissenschaftsgeschichte, in Politik, Literatur und Kunst. Unter dem Titel „Juden und ihre Nachbarn" sollen so die vielfältigen Elemente einer gemeinsamen, verflochtenen Geschichte der jüdischen und nicht-jüdischen Kulturen Europas erkennbar werden. The contributions in this volume address developments in the emergence of a Jewish scholarship movement against the backdrop of diaspora and migration movements in Central and Eastern Europe. These studies on the epistemology of scholarly practices, on the genesis of methods and concepts, and exchange between theoretical approaches reveal the developments that took place in the Wissenschaft des Judentums (Jewish Scholarship) movement.
