This Element is an examination of the philosophical themes presented in Aristotle's Nicomachean and Eudemian Ethics. Topics include happiness, the voluntary and choice, the doctrine of the mean, particular virtues of character and temperamental means, virtues of thought, akrasia, pleasure, friendship, and luck. Special attention has been paid to Aristotle's treatment of virtues of character and thought and their relation to happiness, the reason why Aristotle is the quintessential virtue ethicist. The virtues of character have not received the attention they deserve in most discussions of the relationship between the two treatises.

Dieses Buch problematisiert "die Sophistik" als Gegenstand der Philosophiegeschichte und stellt die These auf, "die Sophistik" sei das Resultat einer philosophischen Operation. Anhand der kritischen Diskussion relevanter Texte von Platon und Aristoteles wird versucht, eine eigentümliche sophistische λόγος-Form zu rekonstruieren. Der Konflikt zwischen Sophistik und Philosophie wird als ein Konflikt zwischen einer parametrischen und einer strategischen Rationalitätsform dargestellt. Fernando Oreja (Madrid, 1966) lebt in Berlin, ist promovierter Philosoph und Philosophiehistoriker mit Schwerpunkt Antike und arbeitet haupt- und freiberuflich als technischer Übersetzer für die Sprachen Deutsch und Spanisch.

Ce volume contient l'édition critique de la deuxième rédaction du commentaire de l'Éthique à Nicomaque écrit par Raoul le Breton au début du XIVe siècle. Le texte est transmis par le seul ms. Vat. lat. 2173 et pose des problèmes importants de critique textuelle, notamment en ce qui concerne sa relation avec les manuscrits transmettant la première rédaction. Plusieurs aspects du texte sont susceptibles d'intéresser les historiens de la philosophie et de la théologie médiévales : l'auteur entend porter, sur la morale d'Aristote, un regard théologique, il revoit un certain nombre de positions qu'il avait adopté dans la première rédaction, et élabore une forme radicale d'intellectualisme, portant aux conséquences extrêmes les positions de Godefroid de Fontaines, son maître. L'édition critique de la première rédaction a été publiée en 2008 (Studia artistarum 17).

La Poétique d’Aristote entérine-t-elle d’emblée, comme on le dit souvent, le divorce entre la parole poétique et le spectacle scénique? Aristote n’aurait-il rien compris à la spectacularité du théâtre? Ou bien s’agit-il d’un préjugé, tributaire d’interprétations et corrections du texte sédimentées au fil des siècles­? Pour y voir plus clair, cet essai entreprend de réinscrire la Poétique dans le projet philosophique d’Aristote, mais aussi de retracer l’histoire de sa réception à la fois chez les théoriciens et chez les praticiens du théâtre - en particulier ceux qui, entreprenant d’adapter sur scène Œdipe roi, ont dû se confronter à un problème imprévu ­: la tragédie érigée en modèle par Aristote ne contredit-elle pas la marginalisation du spectacle défendue par le classicisme­? Abordée sous la forme d’une enquête quasiment policière, cette traversée au cœur de la théorie occidentale du théâtre invite à prendre conscience que les héritages du passé peuvent conditionner inconsciemment nos interrogations présentes, mais aussi les éclairer.
