Background: There is a lack of research into why children with Turkish as their mother tongue have difficulty producing certain sounds in Dutch. In this single case study, based on a thorough literature study, we examine where the differences lie between Turkish and Dutch and what influence this has on the articulation skills. Methods: For the selection of the participant the following criteria were set: having a migrant background, didactic age equivalent of at least 6 months, going to school in primary school, age 6 - 7 years and a bilingual education (Turkish) in combination with Dutch. Furthermore, there may not be any disorder of speech, language, cognition, vision or hearing. By means of a sociocultural questionnaire and an articulation skills test, the articulation skills of a Turkish-Dutch speaking child in Dutch were assessed. These results were compared to the literature. Results: Due to certain limitations in this study, it is not possible to answer the research question posed. Conclusion: Additional research is required. Conducting this study on a larger scale, by means of a test group and a control group, may offer the possibility of answering the research question posed.
