With the increasing role of economic uncertainty, improving the efficiency of forecasts is ever so important. This book makes suggestions on how to evaluate the key economic indicators under uncertainty. It presents the interval method to study economic indicators, which will allow us to understand the possibilities of forecasting and the irregular nature of the economy. It is shown that with the accumulation of negative phenomena in a seemingly stable situation the effect of a compressed spring may snap into action. The book outlines the uncertainty relations in the economy, the minimal uncertainty interval, the effect of an expanding uncertainty band, sensitivity thresholds, as well as the principles of systematization and forecasting of economic indicators. The book presents ways to facilitate economic development, assess the quality of a forecast, and increase the efficiency of forecasts and decision-making in conditions of uncertainty.

This book emphasizes the important message that architects and structural engineers must strive to ensure that the buildings they design and construct should not be major contributors to climate change. Rather, they should be exploring the use of green materials and building methods—such as timber, wood, and associated materials—in order to safeguard the environment. These sustainable materials are not only environmentally friendly, but they have the added benefit of being easy to manufacture, cost-effective, often locally available, and easily replenished. Moreover, it has been demonstrated that wood and timber are viable materials in the construction of a wide variety of building types, including medium and high-rise buildings. The Importance of Wood and Timber in Sustainable Buildings brings together a distinguished group of contributors from different cultures and building traditions to address why now is the time to rethink our construction methods and explore replacing many of the carbon intensive materials that are currently being used with wood and timber. Highlight the benefits of timber and wood construction; Considers the effect of wood and timber construction on carbon emissions; Includes contributions and case studies from varied geographical regions. .

In this volume, Olga A. Ladyzhenskaya expands on her highly successful 1991 Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei lectures. The lectures were devoted to questions of the behaviour of trajectories for semigroups of nonlinear bounded continuous operators in a locally non-compact metric space and for solutions of abstract evolution equations. The latter contain many initial boundary value problems for dissipative partial differential equations. This work, for which Ladyzhenskaya was awarded the Russian Academy of Sciences' Kovalevskaya Prize, reflects the high calibre of her lectures; it is essential reading for anyone interested in her approach to partial differential equations and dynamical systems. This edition, reissued for her centenary, includes a new technical introduction, written by Gregory A. Seregin, Varga K. Kalantarov and Sergey V. Zelik, surveying Ladyzhenskaya's works in the field and subsequent developments influenced by her results.

The rapid outbreak of the COVID-19 has presented unprecedented challenges on education systems. Closing schools and universities and cancelling face-to-face activities have become a COVID-19 inevitable reality in most parts of the world. To be business-as-usual, many higher education providers have taken steps toward digital transformation, and implementing a range of remote teaching, learning and assessment approaches. This book provides timely research on COVID-19 impacts on education systems and seeks to bring together scholars, educators, policymakers and practitioners to collectively and critically identify, investigate and share best practices that lead to rethinking and reframing the way we deliver education in future.

This is a unique book about two types of diplomacy – international and social, that is, traditional and non-traditional. It will be useful for anyone who studies or practices diplomacy, including professional diplomats and those who want to use diplomacy in social life. If you want to better understand not only international but also social diplomacy, then this book is for you. If you are a practitioner in traditional diplomacy or a person who want to apply diplomatic ideas and methods in social life, you can find many useful insights in this original work. A scholar and experienced diplomat, the author argues that international and social diplomacy can learn from each other. He explores genuine diplomacy as a goodwill mission, constructive engagement, and dialogical interaction that can help states, non-state organizations, companies, groups, individuals, and their aggregations to create public goods and make positive social changes.
