Abstract

In developing countries, the social investment on their citizens does not guarantee a good quality of life and the same opportunities for everyone. The author describes the concept of CSR in which the study is based, conjunctly with a literature review where we can find the dimensions and some general aspect of corporate social responsibility and how the stakeholder approach addressed to the workers needs could improve the individual wellbeing of each worker, this way companies are helping in an ethical way to alleviate the lack of institutions, frameworks, and market control of the government.
In the empirical research we analyze the situation of CSR in El Salvador specifically in the American Chamber of Commerce using a descriptive approach to find how the companies are using a stakeholder theory on their actions related to CSR granting benefits to their employees contributing to their welfare and the social, and economical development of the country.
However, the research finds out what companies are CSR certified fortifying the engagement with the stakeholders at the moment of the implementation of their actions on this subject and how is the relation between the marketing and the CSR. To arrive satisfactorily to develop these questions, a questionary was sent to all the members of the American Chamber of Commerce in El Salvador and as compliment of this tool an interview with the senior management of five companies’ members of this Association was integrated to the research. The methodology used for the empirical research is with a qualitative approach that allows to study the reality of ES regarding CSR interpretating the descriptive information, understanding the phenomenon in a specific background.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Since its emergence in the United Kingdom in 2010, Social Impact Bonds seem to be spreading all over the world. It works as follows. Private investors finance projects that aim to develop a social innovation. These investors will be reimbursed by the State with return on investment if the project is successful. While this financial mechanism is popular, it does carry risks.
This master thesis aims to answer the following research question: how can a social impact analysis method limit the risks associated with Social Impact Bonds?
To this end, this paper first defines what Social Impact Bonds are, and explains why the concept is attracting interest from stakeholders. This master thesis then analyses the risks associated with SIB’s. Indeed, the main risks associated with SIB’s are the risk of biased project selection processes, the risk of Mission Drift and the risk of inefficiency. Social impact analysis, intrinsic to the mechanism, can be seen as a tool for managing these risks.
The theoretical part allows us to develop proposals for managing the risks mentioned. These proposals are then compared with the reality on the field through interviews with actors in the SIB world. The aim of this work is to formulate recommendations to better manage the risks and to use the SIB’s in a more efficient way.
