A panoramic new perspective on the life and work of one of Britain's most important artists: David Hockney. Coinciding with the artist's eighty-fifth birthday, this pioneering new publication is an essential overview of David Hockney's career. Contributions by Owen Jones, Marieke Lucas Rijneveld, Ali Smith, Russell Tovey and others, position Hockney within a wide cultural context, charting his journey from his days as a promising student to his place as one of the greatest artists working today. Hockney's work has delighted and challenged audiences for sixty years, and celebrated artworks from throughout his career are at the centre of Tate's outstanding collection. This book features over one hundred of these paintings, prints, drawings and photographs. Seen together, they demonstrate the artist's changing sources of inspiration and, crucially, the direction in which his work continues to move. Beginning in the 1950s when he made his first steps to becoming a modern artist, David Hockney: Moving Focus includes Hockney's famous depictions of the Los Angeles cityscape, his much-loved portraits from the 1970s, as well as more recent landscapes and digital images that reflect his ever-present concern with time, space and perspective. David Hockney: Moving Focus provides an unrivalled overview of Hockney's prolific range and activity. Breathing new life into the nexus of Tate's collection, it reveals how his work can still surprise and unsettle younger generations of viewers today.00Exhibition: BOZAR, Brussels, Belgium (08.10.2021 - 23.01.2022) / Kunstforum Wien, Vienna, Austria (10.02.-19.06.2022) / Kunstmuseum Luzern, Lucerne, Switzerland (08.07.-30.10.2022).

Met werken van Valerio Adami, Evelyne Axell, Marcel Broodthaers, Christo, Raoul De Keyser, Guy Degobert, Jim Dine, Etienne Elias, Jef Geys, Raymond Hains, Allen Jones, Konrad Klapheck, Tetsumi Kudo, Roy Lichtenstein, Konrad Lueg, Pol Mara, Claes Oldenburg, Panamarenko, Peter Phillips, Robert Rauschenberg, Roger Raveel, Jean-Pierre Raynaud, Martial Raysse, Gerhard Richter, James Rosenquist, Mimmo Rotella, George Segal, Daniel Spoerri, Emilio Tadini, Jacques Villeglé, Andy Warhol en Tom Wesselmann.

Andy Warhol's Screen Tests show a conceptual portrait of a New York era--the complex, interconnected avant-garde art world of the mid-1960s. They also offer a reflected portrait of Warhol himself--his friendships and connections, his egalitarianism and his ambition, his fascinations with personality and the human face, his eye for talent and beauty, his mastery of the photographic, cinematic image.

Marcel Broodthaers?s work is characterized by a complex exploration of the relationship of text and image. This catalogue raisonné, prepared by WIELS and developed in close collaboration with the Marcel Broodthaers Succession, is the first to include all of the Belgian conceptual artist?s industrial poems created between 1968 and 1972. Borrowing from the aesthetics of industrially manufactured plastic signs, Broodthaers?s multi-layered, often enigmatic pictorial poems testify to his interest in the entanglements of language, punctuation, and symbols. In blurring the boundaries between word and image, painting and object, new levels of meaning are made visible. The index is supplemented by a collection of Broodthaers?s drawings, writings and ?open letters? as well as scholarly contributions that position the poems as a crucial group of works within the artist?s oeuvre.Marcel Broodthaers (1924?1976) developed his poèmes industriels simultaneously to his seminal work, the Musée d?Art Moderne, Département des Aigles. They form an important element in the development of his fictional museum, a central work of institutional critique.https://www.copyrightbookshop.be/shop/marcel-broodthaers-industrial-poems/

This fascinating study of the role that graphic design played in American art of the 1960s and 1970s focuses on the work of George Maciunas, Ed Ruscha, and Sheila Levrant de Bretteville. Examining how each of these artists utilized typography, materiality, and other graphic design aesthetics, Benoît Buquet reveals the importance of graphic design in creating a sense of coherence within the disparate international group of Fluxus artists, an elusiveness and resistance to categorization that defined much of Ruscha?s brand of Pop Art, and an open and participatory visual identity for a range of feminist art practices. Rigorous and compelling scholarship and a copious illustration program that presents insightful juxtapositions of objects?some of which have never been discussed before?combine to shed new light on a period of abundant creativity and cultural transition in American art and the intimate, though often overlooked, entwinement between art and graphic design.Bron: https://www.copyrightbookshop.be/shop/art-graphic-design-george-maciunas-ed-ruscha-sheila-levrant-de-bretteville/
