Abstract

Anyone who wants to simulate the behavior of vehicles must think about how they want to model the vehicle's chassis. Depending on the question (vehicle dynamics, ride comfort, load data prediction ...) there are a variety of possibilities. This book should help to find and implement the right models and processes. In addition to a short introduction to simulation technology, the most important types of modelling for the assemblies of the chassis using the method of multi-body systems are presented. However, successful simulation does not only mean the assembly of suitable models, but always represents a well thought-out process that goes from data acquisition to the validation of the models. This will be discussed using suitable examples for concrete questions. This book is a translation of the original German edition “Simulation in der Fahrwerktechnik” by “Dirk Adamski”, published by Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden in 2014. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically different from a conventional translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors. The Content Introduction to Simulation: Simulation Methods - Systems Engineering - Modeling - Numerical Analysis - Simulation Process. - Simulation in Chassis Technology: Modeling of Chassis Components - Kinematics and Compliance - Springs - Damping and Friction - Steering - Tires and Roads - Drive Train - Brake System - Vehicle Body - The Simulated Driver - The Vehicle Model as a Controlled System The Target Groups Beginners, but also experienced vehicle simulation engineers who need to use or extend an existing or newly acquired simulation environment Decision makers who need to set up a simulation process or purchase a simulation environment or want to understand what their calculators are doing About the Author Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dirk Adamski worked in the passenger car development department of Daimler AG as a test and computational engineer. Since 2009, he has been Professor for Testing and Simulation in Chassis at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg.

Abstract

The aim of this work, consisting of 9 individual, self-contained booklets, is to describe commercial vehicle technology in a way that is clear, concise and illustrative. Compact and easy to understand, it provides an overview of the technology that goes into modern commercial vehicles. Starting from the customer's fundamental requirements, the characteristics and systems that define the design of the vehicles are presented knowledgeably in a series of articles, each of which can be read and studied on their own. In this volume, Fuel Consumption and Consumption Optimization, the main focus is placed on the factors for optimizing consumption in the conventional vehicle. Fuel consumption can be optimized by four different factors: the technology of the vehicle, the conditions of its operation, the behavior of the driver and the maintenance and upkeep of the vehicle. These aspects are described in a way that is easily understood for training and practical application. Content Fuel consumption and consumption optimization on conventional trucks.- Motion resistance and energy loss.- Vehicle technology.- Operating conditions of the vehicle.- The influence of the driver on fuel consumtion.- Maintenance of the vehicle and service fluids.- Concluding remarks on the topic of consumption.- Comprehension questions.- Abbreviations and symbols. The target groups Participants in master classes and those studying individual aspects of commercial vehicle technology Professors and lecturers instructing in the field of commercial vehicle technology Consultants and experts who need background knowledge and technical expertise regarding commercial vehicle technology Personnel working in the commercial vehicle technology or supply industry who are assigned to a new work area Cost planners and logistics companies The Authors Dr. Michael Hilgers is currently director of the testing center at BFDA, a Foton Daimler truck joint venture in China. Before that he was head of different development departments in Commercial Vehicle Development at Mercedes-Benz Trucks. Dr. Wilfried Achenbach has worked in the automotive industry for over 30 years. Recently he retired as Head of Development at Daimler Trucks North America.

Abstract

The volume is dedicated to the electric car. It examines the extent to which the electric car can contribute to sustainable transport development as part of a new mobility culture. The technical, cultural, political, social and aesthetic dimensions are considered. It will be shown how the general social framework has to change in order to make the electric car a success. This book is a translation of the original German edition "Das Elektroauto“ by “Marcus Keichel”, published by Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden in 2013. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com).
