What are the possibilities for inter faith-dialogue between the SerbianOrthodox Church (henceforth SOC) and other religions, especially Islam, which has emerged as a major political and religious #player# in the geo-historical context of ex-Yugoslavia? The attitudes among Orthodox Churches towards the non-Christian religions, and Islam in particular, are difficult to discern. Orthodox scholars who address the theme generally appeal to the same Biblical and theological sources and tend to express asomewhat surprisingly open view of the possibility of dialogue and of the value of non-Christian religious traditions. However, much ambiguity remains. To the best of my knowledge, this case study would represent a first attempt to address the approaches to, and the issues raised by, the co-existence of Muslims and Christians in this region. Given the factthat this will be a study on those relations from the perspective of a western Catholic, I will include and seek consultation with Orthodox colleagues.I will attempt to contact all of the key figures in the region for statements, comments, and input on my research throughout the writingprocess. I hope for a positive response from most of them, because if the research is done correctly, it may assist, to some degree, with political, humanitarian, and interreligious efforts in the region
