Abstract

Medical and industrial imaging methods have become powerful tools in both the documentation and data collection procedures found in many non-traditional settings. In this book, two of the most preeminent experts in the field serve as volume editors providing an in-depth examination of the current and growing range of imaging tools and techniques currently available on the market. These editors and their contributing authors--top practitioners in the field--explain how these techniques can be applied to all aspects of forensic and archaeological analysis. In addition to providing useful data for analysis, these powerful tools have the added benefit of being non-destructive, thereby preserving the remains or artifact for future analysis with yet-to-be developed technologies. The authors began this work to provide a basis for understanding the application of various imaging modalities in archaeological, anthropological, bioanthropological, and forensic settings. Filled with over 350 images, the writing draws on the editors' global experience in the paleoimaging of cultural remains and artifacts, offering a view of the diverse environments in which field paleoimaging is conducted. The book will be an essential reference for conservators, museum archivists, forensic anthropologists, paleopathologists, archaeologists, and anyone looking to gather imaging information and perform non-destructive research on historical or culturally significant artifacts, remains, or in the process of a forensic investigation. -- Provided by publisher
