"At the 1999 Cannes Film Festival, two movies from northern-Francophone Europe swept almost all the main awards. Rosetta by the Walloon directors Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne won the Golden Palm, and L'humanité by the French director Bruno Dumont won the Grand Prize; both won acting awards as well. Taking this "miracle" of Cannes as the point of departure, Niels Niessen identifies a transregional film movement in the French-Belgian border region-the Cinéma du Nord or "cinema of the North." He examines this movement within the contexts of French and Belgian national cinemas from the silent era to the digital age, as well as that of the new realist tendency in world cinema of the last three decades. In addition, he traces, from a northern perspective, a secular-religious tradition in Francophone-European film and philosophy from Bresson and Pialat, via Bazin, Deleuze, and Godard, to the Dardennes and Dumont, while critiquing this tradition for its frequent use of a humanist vocabulary of grace for a secular world. Once a cradle of the Industrial Revolution, the Franco-Belgian Nord faced economic crisis for most of the twentieth century. Miraculous Realism demonstrates that the Cinéma du Nord's rise to prominence resulted from the region's endeavor to reinvent itself economically and culturally at the crossroads of Europe after decades of recession"--

Après avoir révélé l'existence d'une Wallonenpolitiek, voici un nouveau chapitre inédit sur l'histoire de la Grande Guerre. C'est en vain que les Allemands ont tenté d'embarquer la Wallonie dans leur aventure. Seul un petit groupe a accepté de participer à la séparation administrative mise en place par Berlin, La Belgique occupée se composant, à partir de 1917, d'une région flamande et d'une région wallonne. Quand la défaite du IIIe Reich et la signature de l'Armistice consacrent le retour à la Belgique d'avant 1914, commencent les poursuites judiciaires contre les collaborateurs. En novembre 1918, ils quittent précipitamment Namur pour se réfugier à l'étranger. Qui sont-ils ? Où et pourquoi fuient-ils ? Leur nouvelle vie apporte-t-elle un éclairage sur leurs activités pendant la guerre ? Après la publication en 2008 de la Wallonie et la Première Guerre mondiale, cette suite s'intéresse à la fuite des quelques têtes brulées qui ont apporté leur concours à la "politique wallonne" de l'Occupant allemand entre 1914 et 1918. La destinée des activistes flamands réfugiés à l'étranger a déjà été étudiée par des historiens, mais aucune étude ne s'est jamais penchée sur le sort des fugitifs "wallons". S'appuyant sur des archives inédites, l'histoire de cette fuite apporte de nouveaux éclairages sur la Wallonenpolitik, sur ses protagonistes, et sur l'aide apportée par l'Allemagne à ses anciens collaborateurs, certains restants à son service jusqu'à l'autre guerre. Elle conforte l'idée que la collaboration "wallonne" ne peut être comparée à l'activisme flamand. Il s'agit d'une suite, mais le lecteur entrera aisément dans ce dossier original et passionnant, inédit et intrigant, puisque tous les préalables nécessaires ont été ici résumés pour lui permettre de suivre la piste de ces Wallons en fuite.
