Abstract

This book highlights the differences, in terms of neoplastic dissemination pathways, between various types of thoracic cancers. It presents and discusses a comprehensive schematic overview of tumors of the lung parenchyma, of the mediastinum, of the pleura, and of the chest wall. For each tumor, it details the local spread and the lymphatic and vascular dissemination, and it describes the challenging staging of lung tumors with mutations. Illustrations and artwork enrich the content and help readers to understand and visualize tumor spread. The book is of great interest to professionals involved in the study, diagnosis and treatment of thoracic pathologies, as well as to residents in radiology, oncology and pulmonology.

Abstract

This book reviews normal thymic structure and covers the histomorphology of benign and malignant tumors and rare lesions of the thymus, with detailed descriptions of over 300 full color photomicrographs accompanied by relevant clinical and radiology photographs and anatomical drawings. It includes chapters on the surgical pathology and cytology of thymic lesions (which is rarely described in the available literature), and all grades and stages of the most common thymic lesions. Written and edited by leading experts on pathology, the book highlights the expanded role of pathologists in patient care for thymic lesions. It will help students to understand thymic cytology and surgical pathology in detail and enable them to answer questions on thymic surgical resections and cytology cases in their pathology post-graduation examination. In addition, the book offers a comprehensive, richly illustrated guide to thymic pathology for clinicians, practicing pathologists, post-graduate residents and students alike.

Abstract

The pestiviruses encompass some of the most economically important viral infections in the cattle, swine, and sheep industries worldwide. Discovered more than 70 years ago, bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) and classical swine fever virus (CSFV) were long the main concern, but many new pestiviruses have emerged in recent years, which may also present additional threats to biosecurity and food safety. This issue brings together contributions from multiple disciplines – virology, immunology, veterinary clinical medicine, epidemiology, and pathology – on the subject of BVDV and related pestiviruses, and cover host–virus interactions, virus–cell interactions, cross-species transmission as well as the role of wildlife species as reservoirs of some of the pestiviruses.
