Time series data are chronological sequences of observations produced by regularly and repeatedly measuring some characteristic or characteristics of the same case over time (e.g., aggregate support for the government in a country, the crime rate in a city). Time series analysis is the application of statistical models to time series data. This entry defines time series analysis and distinguishes time series data from other forms of data. It defines important time series notation and terminology. It provides a discussion of the challenges of time series analysis and of key time series fundamentals: autoregression, autocorrelation, serial correlation, stationarity, exogeneity, weak dependence, trending, seasonality, structural breaks, and stability.

The Politics is one of the most influential texts in the history of political thought, and it raises issues which still confront anyone who wants to think seriously about the ways in which human societies are organized and governed. The work of one of the world's greatest philosophers, it draws on Aristotle's own great knowledge of the political and constitutional affairs of the Greek cities. By examining the way societies are run - from households to city states - Aristotle establishes how successful constitutions can best be initiated and upheld. For this edition Sir Ernest Barker's fine tra

This book offers an engaging and historically informed account of the moral challenge of radically asymmetric violence-warfare conducted by one party in the near-complete absence of physical risk, across the full scope of a conflict zone. What role does physical risk and material threat play in the justifications for killing in war? And crucially, is there a point at which battlefield violence becomes so one-directional as to undermine the moral basis for its use? In order to answers these questions, Asymmetric Killing delves into the morally contested terrain of the warrior ethos and Just War Tradition, locating the historical and contemporary role of reciprocal risk within both.

Human rights as the basis of justice are under increasing pressure. In the background, there are still unsolved questions about the relationship between the universal claim to human rights and the particularity of human life, but also the challenges of the global economy. Following the research approach by Ingeborg G. Gabriel, current challenges are analyzed and possible future perspectives from different disciplines are examined. Religions from an internal and external perspective play the central role in promoting dialogues. With regard to a new order of our world economy, the volume shows practical ways for a revision of the house rules. The book is an invitation to interdisciplinary, interreligious and ecumenical thinking, in order to make the world together a more just and peaceful place.

It is beyond dispute that both China and the European Union stand to gain from promoting low-carbon development through the dissemination of clean and renewable energy sources, as this inevitably leads to increased environmental protection. The depletion of fossil fuel resources and the accompanying changes in the global energy mix make Europe and China not only competitors in the global economic race, but also nolens volens partners. Their pragmatic partnership is characterized, on the one hand, by the need to take action to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and, on the other, by the desire to minimize the negative environmental impact of their use. Hence, the existing and emerging cooperation between the two actors, while challenging for a number of reasons, is not only an attempt to set up channels to exchange vital information, but also an exercise in setting the standards under which further cooperation will be forged.

The Consequences of Humiliation explores the nature of national humiliation and its impact on foreign policy. Joslyn Barnhart demonstrates that Germany's catastrophic reaction to humiliation at the end of World War I is part of a broader pattern: states that experience humiliating events are more likely to engage in international aggression aimed at restoring the state's image in its own eyes and in the eyes of others. Barnhart shows that these states also pursue conquest, intervene in the affairs of other states, engage in diplomatic hostility and verbal discord, and pursue advanced weaponry and other symbols of national resurgence at higher rates than non-humiliated states in similar foreign policy contexts. Her examination of how national humiliation functions at the individual level explores leaders' domestic incentives to evoke a sense of national humiliation. As a result of humiliation on this level, the effects may persist for decades, if not centuries, following the original humiliating event.
