Johann Wolfgang von Goethe recupera, en la tragedia Fausto, a uno de los personajes más extraordinarios de la literatura universal, para representar, a través de la reactualización simbólica de su relato mítico, el itinerario psicológico y espiritual de su protagonista. En este sentido, la obra alcanza con Goethe un cariz filosófico y humanista sin precedentes, que nos permite, aún hoy, afrontar su lectura desde una perspectiva íntima y reflexiva. Sin embargo, la enorme riqueza de sus símbolos y alegorías hace que su interpretación se torne a menudo difícil y compleja. Por esta razón, un análisis como el que presentamos, centrado de manera específica en su contenido simbólico y filosófico, puede ayudar a todo aquel que pretenda acercarse a Fausto con el firme ánimo de encontrarse a sí mismo. Following his previous translation of one hundred of Goethe's poems, in this volume Zeydel presents translations of a selection of Goethe's shorter poems, the majority of which were written in the last twenty years of his life. Das vorliegende Buch schliesst zwei beruhmte Dramentexte der deutschen Aufklarung an Probleme der heutigen Weltgesellschaft an, die Gemeinwohlbelang beanspruchen durfen. Lessings 'Emilia Galotti' wird als Sicherung menschlichen Lebens und Zusammenlebens durch die glaubensgehorsame Hingabe der Titelheldin an die Uberwindung vernunftwidriger biblischer Lebenslehren interpretiert, Goethes 'Iphigenie auf Tauris' als Darstellung der vertraglichen Grundlegung eines globalen menschenrechtlichen Fremdenrechts erlautert. An diese Interpretationen anknupfend legt das dritte Kapitel des Buches die fachtheoretische Empfehlung vor, das weltweite Nebeneinander der standortbewusst aufgestellten Germanistiken unter Wahrung ihrer Eigenstandigkeiten in ein plurales Miteinander im Selbstverstandnis einer multilateralen Regionalistik der deutschsprachigen Welt zu verwandeln.
