"Turning a blind eye to the dangers of the wild can have deadly consequences. Growing up on a northern trap line, Harold Johnson was taught to keep his distance from wolves. For more than 100 years, one of Canada's top predators seemed to have absorbed the same lesson about avoiding contact with people, who pose dangers. But this seems to be changing in the twenty-first century. In Cry Wolf, Johnson re-tells the story of the 2005 death of Kenton Carnegie, who was cornered and killed in a wolf attack near his work camp. Johnson draws on his experience as a Crown prosecutor to forensically deconstruct the official reports of the killing. In his telling, the finger of blame points squarely to the lack of respect given to an animal which, as a result, is becoming more dangerous to humans. Johnson believes millennia of Indigenous teaching could have saved a life and rehabilitated the wolf to its honoured place."--.

"Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks have become more destructive, wide-spread and harder to control over time. This book allows students to understand how these attacks are constructed, the security flaws they leverage, why they are effective, how they can be detected, and how they can be mitigated. Students use software defined networking (SDN) technology to created and execute controlled DDoS experiments. They learn how to deploy networks, analyze network performance, and create resilient systems"--

"For understandable and inevitable reasons, the colloquially termed "9/11" is most symbolically linked to the World Trade Center. The Pentagon's destruction received far less coverage, but those who helped extinguish the fires, tend to the wounded, and clean up the aftermath will never forget such a loss. Thousands took part in the Pentagon recovery effort following 9/11, but few knew exactly what they were signing up for. A nearby Army unit, the 3rd United States Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), sent its soldiers to contribute where they could, as best they could, and in any capacity they could. In this book, soldiers of The Old Guard have elected to share their experiences. Their accounts attest to the honor and camaraderie that were necessary for picking up the pieces, as well as the traumatic effects of being enveloped in the aftermath of tragedy."

This book brings together the latest literature and European experiences on preventing youth violent radicalisation and violent actions in intergroup relations. Youth violent radicalisation is a significant problem within the European context, and requires an exploration of how various social actors can play an active role in preventing radicalisation in minors and young adults. This complex issue needs to be explored through a multidisciplinary approach, and effective operational models are needed in order to tackle it. This book describes the theoretical framework for such an approach in all its facets. The book’s originality lies in its psychosocial and participatory approach, aimed at improving results through professional training and community empowerment for building trusting relationships and educational activities. It also proposes “alternative narratives”, which are a way of representing people and groups within a social context, thereby overcoming stereotyped visions and stigma. This book focuses on participation and communication among stakeholders, social inclusion, strengthening democratic values, and pursuing a proactive instead of a reactive approach to preventing radicalisation. Highly topical, the book will appeal to researchers and students of the social and behavioural sciences interested in youth radicalisation, including social work and social policy, as well as practitioners working within the juvenile justice system. .
