Plausible Crime Stories is not only the first in-depth study of the history of sex offences in Mandate Palestine but it also pioneers an approach to the historical study of criminal law and proof that focuses on plausibility. Doctrinal rules of evidence only partially explain which crime stories make sense while others fail to convince. Since plausibility is predicated on commonly held systems of belief, it not only provides a key to the meanings individual social players ascribe to the law but also yields insight into communal perceptions of the legal system, self-identity, the essence of normality and deviance and notions of gender, morality, nationality, ethnicity, age, religion and other cultural institutions. Using archival materials, including documents relating to 147 criminal court cases, this socio-legal study of plausibility opens a window onto a broad societal view of past beliefs, dispositions, mentalities, tensions, emotions, boundaries and hierarchies.

"Em 1994, aos vinte e cinco anos de idade, quando o terrível "despedaçamento que vem com a agressão sexual" dobrou-se profundamente em seu corpo e pensamentos de suicídio estavam sempre por perto, Erin Manning escreveu A Manga Perfeita num estado quase febril: dezenove capítulos em dezenove dias, uma especie de operação de auto-resgate, onde a escrita tornou-se uma maneira de fazer (e sentir) a vida de outra forma. Ao longo desses dezenove dias, e embora não capaz de articular completamente para si mesma na epoca, Manning escreveu-se para dentro "de uma composição que pergunta de que outra forma a vida poderia ser vivida". Republicar o livro agora e dar-lhe um lugar no mundo de uma maneira que honre sua força como algo que está sempre alem da reivindicação de qualquer um, mesmo de Manning. Nesse sentido, A Manga Perfeita nos convida, com Manning, a estar em excesso de nós mesmos, e tambem a considerarmos, nas palavras de Manning, "como criar condições para viver alem da crença feroz do humanismo de que nós, os privilegiados, os neurotípicos, os ainda incólumes, os corpos-capazes, e que guardamos a chave para todas as perspectivas no teatro da vida". Por fim, A Manga Perfeita e as reflexões de Manning a respeito de sua composição pedem que consideremos "viver na feroz celebração de um mundo inventado por esses modos de vida que rasgam o tecido colonial, branco, neurotípico da vida como a conhecemos.""

This book focuses on the experience of imprisonment from the perspectives of individuals with sexual convictions. It stresses the importance of a positive and rehabilitative prison climate. The volume begins with an exploration of the theoretical underpinnings of a rehabilitative prison climate and discusses some of the practical ways of creating rehabilitative cultures in prisons housing people convicted of sexual offences. Four empirical chapters focus on the experience of stigmatisation, prison officers’ attitudes towards prisoners’ offences, negotiating the ‘sex offender’ identity in prisons and the varied experience of ‘being’ in prisons exclusively for individuals with sexual convictions. Throughout the authors discuss the specific benefits of peer-support, such as the chance to earn self-forgiveness, construct adaptive identities and consequently move away from harmful labels. The book also spotlights a chapter on the experience of imprisonment written by a former service-user, this unique position offers an insightful account of an individual’s journey through the prison system. Nicholas Blagden is an Associate Professor in Forensic Psychology at Nottingham Trent University, UK. He is a Chartered Psychologist having worked and researched within the criminal justice system and HM Prison Service for many years and is a co-founder and trustee of the Safer Living Foundation charity. Belinda Winder is a Professor in Forensic Psychology, a Chartered Psychologist and Head of the Sexual Offences, Crime and Misconduct Research Unit at Nottingham Trent University, UK. She is a co-founder and trustee of the Safer Living Foundation charity. Rebecca Lievesley is a lecturer in Psychology at Nottingham Trent University and has conducted research within the criminal justice system for many years. Kerensa Hocken is a registered forensic psychologist at HMPPS Whatton, UK. She has oversight for the assessment and treatment of people in prison for sexual offending in the Midlands region. Phil Banyard is Head of Psychology at Nottingham Trent University, UK. He was honoured with the British Psychological Society’s Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychology Education. Helen Elliott is Lecturer in Counselling at Bishop Grosseteste University, UK. She has a background in forensic psychology and is a trainee integrative psychotherapist.

#MeToo has sparked a global re-emergence of sexual violence activism and politics. This edited collection uses the #MeToo movement as a starting point for interrogating contemporary debates in anti-sexual violence activism and justice-seeking. It draws together 19 accessible chapters from academics, practitioners, and sexual violence activists across the globe to provide diverse, critical, and nuanced perspectives on the broader implications of the movement. It taps into wider conversations about the nature, history, and complexities of anti-rape and anti-sexual harassment politics, including the limitations of the movement including in the global South. It features both internationally recognised and emerging academics from across the fields of criminology, media and communications, film studies, gender and queer studies, and law and will appeal broadly to the academic community, activists, and beyond.
