Welches sind die drängenden Fragen der Architektur, in Lehre, Forschung und Praxis? Aus ihrer langjährigen Erfahrung gehen die Hochschullehrer Inès Lamunière und Laurent Stalder in fünf Gesprächen gemeinsam auf die Suche nach Antworten. What are the pressing questions in architecture - in teaching, research and practice? Based on their many years of experience, professors Inès Lamunière and Laurent Stalder come together in five meetings to search for answers. They describe an approach to architecture that is based on intellect as well as intuition and is both strict and pragmatic. And they sketch out creative processes that are indispensable in the development of projects with all their constraints in order to master the future challenges faced by the art of building.

"pool Architekten", founded in 1998, is a Zürich-based architecture co-operative working predominantly in the fields of housing and school buildings. In architecture, housing in particular, you never are the first. Virtually everything has been tried before. Each concrete solution found for a detail is a compound of predecessors’ ideas and new original thought, and it again contributes to the global virtual pool for succeeding concepts. In twenty years’ work of Zürich-based co-operative pool Architekten, residential buildings have always been a special focus of research and design. The new book Poolology of Housing now allows the reader to take a closer look at collective’s experimental drive and its output, and to learn from their expertise. Core of the book is a collection of 200 floor plans, designed by members of the collective and by students of their 2013–16 tenure as visiting professors at Technische Universität Berlin. Direct comparison of these designs demonstrates the scope an architect has for residential buildings despite the many constraints imposed by range of external factors. Richly illustrated with images of built and unrealized projects by pool Architekten as well as of model replicas of iconic historic interiors, the book refers to a culture of housing design that reflects both the social context and the inhabitants’ attitudes. In der Architektur und insbesondere im Wohnungsbau ist man nie der Erste. Praktisch alles ist schon einmal dagewesen, jede konkrete Lösung setzt sich aus Beiträgen früherer Architektinnen und Architekten zusammen und erweitert ihrerseits wiederum den Fundus für nachfolgende Schöpfungen. In der Arbeit des vor 20 Jahren gegründeten Büros pool Architekten stehen Wohnbauprojekte schon seit jeher im Zentrum der Recherche, was auch mit den kollektiven Ursprüngen der Genossenschaft zusammenhängt. Das Buch 'Poolologie des Wohnens' will nun die Experimentierlust nach aussen tragen, die diese Arbeit von pool antreibt. Die Arbeit im Architektenkollektiv und mit den Studierenden der TU-Berlin macht es möglich, den Denkraum über die Grenzen des einzelnen Entwerfers hinaus auszuweiten. Das Rückgrat des Buchs bildet eine Sammlung von 200 Grundrissen von pool und von Studierenden. Im direkten Nebeneinander der grafischen Darstellungen zeigt sich, wie gross die entwerferischen Spielräume im Wohnungsbau trotz der hochgradigen Vereinnahmung durch äussere Faktoren sind. Reiches Bildmaterial, insbesondere von Wohnräumen realisierter und unrealisierter Projekte, sowie Modellfotos nachgebauter Interieurs von Ikonen der Architekturgeschichte verweisen auf eine Wohnbaukultur, die den gesamtgesellschaftlichen Kontext wie auch die Lebenshaltung der Bewohnerschaft widerspiegelt.

CARTHA est un projet éditorial fondé en 2014 et conçu comme un terrain d'échange et de réflexion autour de l'architecture et de la société. Chaque année différentes recherches sont publiées dans le magazine en ligne avant d'être rassemblées dans un livre. En 2016 CARTHA a été invité à participer à la triennale d'architecture de Lisbonne. Art is a form of thinking and dialoguing, and an usual source of knowledge. This publication introduces art-based learning, a method that enables the spectator to explore these dialogues and 'converse' with works of art. Art and culture analyst and educational designer Jeroen Lutters uses three triptychs to demonstrate how relevant questions can produce a different perception and understanding. The book is intended for students and educators of art, art history, drama and cinema, literature, anthropology, theology, philosophy, and interdisciplinary studies. The developed method is also highly suited to artistic research at academies of art, music, film, and dance.
