This book is about the destruction of art, both in terms of objects that have been destroyed -- lost in fires, floods or vandalism -- and the general concept of art operating through object and form. Through re-examinations of such events as the Momart warehouse fire in 2004 and the activities of art thief Stephane Breitwieser, the book proposes an idea of solvent form hinging on the dual meaning in the words solvent and solvency, whereby art, while attempting to make secure or fixed, simultaneously undoes and destroys through its inception. Ultimately, the book questions what is it that may be perceived in the destruction of art and how we understand it, and further how it might be linked to a more general failure.

My Basilian Priesthood is a memoir of Michael Quealey's six years in the order in the 1960s. During his priesthood, Quealey was director of the Newman Centre at the University of Toronto and engaged in reforming the mass and in other theological matters. The 1960s was a time of questioning traditions, including the role of Biblical criticism, the nature of liturgy, the place of women in the Church and in society, and the power of community living and decision-making. Quealey was deeply involved in all these matters, and sought to fulfill his commitment to service and balance that with his faith and vows of obedience to the institution of the Church. Written decades after the events he describes, the book is his reflection on the excitement of the times and the tensions created when tradition encountered new ideas and new forms of communal living. Here's a story that blends Toronto history with Catholic Church history and an inside look at 1960s counterculture.

Behold an improbable book that introduces us to the findings of forty artists. It has been written by a twentieth-century philosopher who, for thirty-five years, has collaborated and spoken with artists of all ages and reputations. All of the conversations you will find in this book have been proofread by the artists. No difficult or empty words here, but if some of the sentences are too long, please feel free to make them shorter. Slowly but surely, a vast landscape of numerous formal possibilities unfolds before the reader’s eyes, which is all the more moving because each one of these approaches is linked to a unique way of being, seeing and doing things. Highly recommended for young artists, curious students, art lovers, collectors, academics and other solitary men and women who seek to escape the daily grind of housekeeping or, quite simply, have got nothing better to do.

This publication assembles essays, statements, interviews, letters, poems, and other kinds of texts by artists from all around the world on the various concepts of sculpture from 1990 to the present. Illustrations of the contributing artists’ works show the multiple facets and diversity of contemporary sculpture. In three lengthy chapters and a brief introduction, the book presents works of sculpture, the processes used to create them, different kinds of figuration, and exhibition venues for contemporary sculpture. Intended for a broad audience of artists, curators, art historians, students, and art lovers, this volume is being produced by the Anthony Cragg Foundation for the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park in Wuppertal and serves both as an important reference book as well as a source of inspiration.
