Dans un contexte économique très concurrentiel, les entreprises de la construction ont cherché à se renouveler et à garantir leur performance par la réduction des coûts sans compromettre la qualité et la sécurité dans l’exécution des projets, et dégager ainsi des marges financières nécessaires pour leur pérennité. Face à ces enjeux, elles se sont appropriées les concepts du LEAN pour donner naissance au LEAN Construction au début de notre siècle. Défini comme un système de production orienté « satisfaction client » permettant la réduction systématique des gaspillages par tous les acteurs sur l’ensemble des activités, son implémentation dans les entreprises reste encore complexe.

La littérature scientifique fait l’état d’une variété de démarches, de méthodes et d’outils associés à la pratique du LEAN Construction. C’est pourquoi nous nous sommes questionnée sur sa pratique sur les chantiers de construction et plus particulièrement, sur un chantier de Réhabilitation lourde/Rénovation à Paris dans le cadre d’une immersion pendant cinq mois dans une entreprise générale du BTP.

Pour ce travail d’investigation, la méthodologie générale choisie est l’approche déductive -approche qui évolue au fur et à mesure de l’avancée des recherches-. Après une première phase d’exploration en interne qui nous a permis d’observer puis de nous familiariser avec le cas d’étude de terrain, s’est engagée une phase d’interrogation des acteurs clés via des entretiens semi-dirigés qui visait à évaluer la pratique du LEAN Construction sur un chantier. Afin d’approfondir notre réflexion, la dernière phase de recherche s’est intéressée à la mise en œuvre de deux outils du LEAN Construction, le LPS et les 5S au travers une démarche d’observation participante. 

Lors de notre investigation, nous avons constaté la difficulté de mise en œuvre d’une pratique LEAN Construction auprès de l’ensemble des acteurs du chantier. Nous nous sommes confrontée aux réalités du terrain, - imprévus, retards, arrêt d’utilisation de l’outil -, ce qui a rendu la collecte de données incomplète. Néanmoins ce travail de recherche met en lumière quelques pistes d’évaluation de l’implémentation d’une pratique LEAN Construction sur les chantiers.
